I am attempting to find out what the original color was for my interior. I have searched this forum and the internet for months now. The leather in my car has been dyed before. I know there are two colors offered by Leatherique, Saddle I and Saddle II. The present color in the car is somewhere in between.

I attempted to contact Ferrari via the Ferrari Owners site and Ferrari directly. They said they could not help me, which seems pretty unsupportive.

Does anyone have an 85 QV, and if so do they know their interior code? I have heard sometimes it is sometimes in their owners manual.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bill

If it's tan, it's probably 3218. Check the GAHH.com website - they supply replacement leather for Ferraris and it's quite accurate.

You can contact the dealership where the car originally sold. They might have kept records.

Here's the Algar stock card for my 1976 GTB:

I just went through the same pain with mine. I have a red interior, which is supposed to be VM3171 from Leatherique. I sent in a sample to compare and it was off. Another fchatter had the same issue with their Red VM3171. I ended up doing a color match by sending a sample.

If Saddle I and II do not look like they match, then you may need to send them an undistrubed sample of your leather.

Is there any part of your car that was not dyed? Under the seats? Remove a door panel and look inside? All they need is about one square inch sample. It will be the best $95 you'll spend. My interior looks great now.

Remember to apply the Rejuvinator and Pristine clean MANY times before dying.

    Good luck and send pictures.

Saddle I may be the 3218 color code, which was used on the '70s and '80s cars.

Saddle II may be the 3228 color code, used on the 355 and later cars.

Unless your car was kept indoors for the last 30 years in storage, it will be difficult or impossible to tell the original color without some kind of factory certificate, as Barry posted.

When I had my 328 interior redone, we disassembled the seats and removed the old leather, revealing the original/preserved color that was tucked underneath the seat cushion (on the left, below). Everything else had been changed by years of sunlight and dyeing -- and my interior was in pretty good shape prior to the re-upholstering.

Thanks for all the information guys. Was the 85 QV available with both the Saddle I and the Saddle II interior color? I recently saw an 84 QV unrestored with the original Saddle I interior. It is definitely more yellow/tan than the Saddle II's orange tint.

I would like to keep it as original as possible.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

Saddle II came later and is darker. Back in the '70s and '80s, when men were men and we didn't spend weeks picking out leather swatches for our cars, there was only one 'tan' and it was 3218. They also had crema, red, blue, grey and black.

Now I'm sure the Ferrari dealer has a big hardbound volume of all the shades of tan...

Thanks for all the info. Does anyone know which of the many books on the 308 are best for finding more information? When I took my seats out, I discovered they were redyed with different shades of dye. I really want to redye to the original color.

I have an 85 QV and the color of my interior is the 3218 saddle I. The only thing different with my interior is the piping was ordered as black with this color.

My search for the correct color and code is still very confusing. I know one thing for sure, my interior is beige. The same color codes are different shades. Saddle 3218 from Leatherique and GAHH as seen below are very different.
The "Original Ferrari V8" book list the color as VM4208.
    A 07/15/1989 Ferrari service bulletin says VM4208 replaced VM3218 in 1989.

Ferrari has not been able or willing to help.

I really want the interior to be the factory original color. If anyone has a 1985 with the "beige" interior can you please post a picture? Even better would be a Algar stock card with the color code. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bill

I went through a similar experience and finally cut a small piece from underneath a seat and sent to Leatherique. Turns out the original color for my car was 'creme', which I never would have guessed from the color samples on their web site. It was a perfect match and the interior now looks almost factory new. You should follow their instructions to a 't' including the stripping and wet sanding, but the results will be dramatic. Btw, I applied the stain w/ an air brush and it gives a more monolithic, textured appearance. Also, it is probably more likely that the intreior color is creme if the exterior color of the car is something other than red. Mine is Black, btw.

Have you done the request for your Heritage Certificate from the Ferrari Owner's website? The certificate will give the interior color code. Here is the certificate for my QV.

    Hi.
I've a 1983 308 QV red on tan. I've asked the Ferrari Owners site and they told me that the interior tan colour code is 3218. So go for it.

    Cheers

I decided to go with Leatherique and the 3218 color. Can anyone recommend a good sprayer or airbrush brand and model to use?

    Hi Jeff.
I'm curious. When you asked for the Colour Certificate? I'm trying to have mine and the Ferrari Owners site they told me that's impossible, only for carb cars until 1980... I'm trying several times, and I receive all the time the same answer: not possible! There is a back door to receive the Certificate? We've to pay something? I think that there are several Fchatters with the same question.

    Thanks

I just filled in the request through the owners site and it was available to download a couple of days later. No charges or grief.

I will admit that one has to correctly navigate the website to get to the proper place.

    Hi again Jeff.

No problem to navigate to the appropiated part of the Ferrariowners site. The problem is that after filling the web page with the data, they sent to me an e-mail telling me that the certificate is only for carb cars until 1980. Your car is injection and a 1984 car, so... Why they don't want to do the Certificate? Why they sent to you the Certificate? This is the question?

Mike C from FChat redyed his seats using Leatherique but not with their method. Leatherique used to have the info posted on their site but the last time I was there it was gone. Here is the link Mike sent me: http://www.fca-se.org/conc_leather.htm.
