Hi, My steering wheel hub only has the six holes that hold the steering wheel on, and no other holes to use a steering wheel removal tool. Has anyone removed a steering wheel hub that doesn't have the additional two holes, if so, how. I am unable to remove it with the steering wheel attached to the hub. Thank you.

Iirc when I removed my hub I removed the ring nut and used a puller that screwed into three of the holes the steering wheel is held on with. It pushed on the center shaft while pulling the hub off. Does this help?

I too have a 85 QV. I have never removed the "Hub", but as Robert says, I believe you have to first take off the 6 Allen headed bolts holding the Wheel. Then there must be a puller that has a plate with 3 or 6 holes that correspond to the Hub Bolt holes. You will have to remove the large nut on the column and then the Puller should have a long central bolt that screws down on to the top of the Steering Column. Does anyone of you know of a existing tool / puller that will do the trick or do you have to make up your own "custom" one?

All correct. The puller I used was custom made and exactly as you describe. It was borrowed from an fchatter who has since passed.

    Two methods:

After the ring nut is removed, get a big brass drift and a hammer and bang the drift on the steering shaft. the vibration MAY loosen it up. I'd try 1-3 times only.

Go to Auto Zone and get a steering wheel puller. It has 4 arms on it, shared like a peace sign. You can use three of the arms to secure the puller to the holes in the hub. You also have to get three screws and washers to fit into the hub holes. Use the screws you took out as a guide. AutoZone has a buy, then return policy. You buy it, use it, then return it for full credit. I just did this and it was $20. Good deal.

Hi, I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I was a little worried that the 5mm holes that hold the steering wheel wouldn't be strong enough for a puller. I will get some long bolts for the holes and the four slot puller. Thank you very much.

I am going to warn you that the 328 (possibly the 308QV) have a steering hub that takes a 2 bolt puller. The hub broke right off after I used the correct 2 bolt puller right at the theaded hole forcing me to remove the entire steering shaft.

The unofficial way to remove it is to use a air chisel with the blunt tip. Insert it into the recess hole at the very end of the steering column facing up. Blast away to vibrate the hub loose.

    Good luck.

Not sure what happened to your hub but mine lifted off with relative ease.

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that I used the four slot puller, and the steering wheel hub was removed rather easily. Thank you again for all the advice.
