Hello Everyone. Not long ago I had bend valves on one of my heads. (was determined that a spark plug broke apart) I have everything torn down and and I purchased very expensive Valves, guides, springs, etc... I have a machinist who is pretty well know in my area for high performance and race builds. He needs information on how much can be taken off the surface. Does anyone know where I can find that info? Much appreciated.
Thanks! Im no machinist, but Im guessing my guy can do the math to tell what he needs.... These parts were NOT cheap. I could have went the easy route and just replace the bent ones, but Im a "while Im in there" kind of guy. S
Some machinists like to take off enough it looks like a brand new head so it looks pretty. That is generally not required.
yep - problem is (I should have mentioned) one of the heads was fuzed to the block studs. Rope trick got it up a little. Took 3 weeks of slowly using a wedge on each side (along with heat and lubricant) to raise it up enough to fit a brake spanner on each side. So - it's scared up a little. He is going to use pin weds on the scars and then shave. It was bear. Wedging sure beat cutting the head off. a used head is $2900.
My machinist took respectively 0.08mm and 0.10mm on mines (QV also, and sorry for the metric, I'm french). But fortunately for me, they we're not fuzed with the studs. Just ask him to grind the minimum.
