Hello everybody, I'm about to order a set of QA1/EIBACH coilovers for my '85 QV from summit. I have the part #s for the shocks, but I'm not sure about the springs. 12/250 rear, 10/300 front, is this a good choice? I do not track or race the car, just street driving and a ralley event once in a while. Also, what are "paperweights"? A lot of guys mentioned this when discussing QA1 installation. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Ted.

I do not have QA1s, but.... as I understand it they require minor trimming of the control arms for clearance. If you were to instead put a shock eye on one end, that trimming wouldn't be required.

Unfortunately, the liability of selling such a part makes it impossible. Instead, Verrell made paperweights to put on your desk and remind you what such a part would look like, if someone had the legal means to make one.

Contact Verell for those paperweights and adapters.

You should get the roller bearing set, they make adjustment easier once the shocks/springs are mounted to the car.

Springs rates are a matter of subjective preference. Your 250/300 r/f are more stiff than the stock springs, which IIR are 175/185 f/r. I went with 275/325 r/f and like what I feel.

If you are doing this yourself, be careful when using spring compressors.

Report back how you are proceeding and if you need any help.

    Good luck,
    Phil

as posted above there is a monster thread you should read through, start to finish.

I'm very happy with the 300/300 QA1 springs on my '85 GTS. Setting the shocks to 4 out of 12 gives a taut but not jarring street ride.
I know most people here chose different spring rates front/rear, but I haven't found any reason to dislike the 300/300s.
As tested at Road America last summer, through flat corners at constant throttle all 4 tires squeal equally which IMO means it's balanced just about perfectly between under/oversteer.
There's a 2nd gear, 90 degree turn on my drive home from work (almost never traffic around there so I can safely experiment) that has a subtle crest toward the end, that I can reliably get the back end to step out correcting with a dab or healthy twist of oppo. That's fun :)

I have 250 rears and 300 fronts, as do alot of folks on the boards, however I find the rears are too squishy, and if I had it to do over again i would at least go with 300's in the rear as well. just my two cents.
