I have removed the wheels from my 1985 TR for reconditioning. These are center spline type wheels with a single octagonal lock nut. When I replace them, is there a lubricant and/or anti-sieze compound that should be applied to the spline shaft? to the octagonal lock nut threads?

No need to lubricate as such
Just make sure everything is clean a little grease will keep everything "workable" for the enxt year or 2. Keep in mind however that Extreme breaking (like on a track) the Disk (brake) and everyting around it can and will get very hot! so I would use what we call copper grease (also used for breakpads)

PS 1 more thing...!!! make sure to lock the nut at the correct strenght. Overdoing will not help however not strong enough and you will wear the centerpiece out real fast. Replacing is not, possible so you will need to buy a new wheel... and they are expensive....
Have had the same problem... so be aware of it

My mechanic uses copper grease to lubricate my spines. It's copper colored.

    Dear Ferraristi,

The copper grease is a High Temp anti-seize. You can buy it a Discount Auto for a few dollars. I use it on wheel nuts, spark plug threads and brake parts on my 91 TR.

Thank you to Shamile, Khayes, and Robje1355 for advise on spline lub.
Robje1355 discusses problem related to over-tightening the octagonal wheel lock nut. I believe the spec is a whopping 245 ft-lbs of torque. I have not heard of the specific problem of wearing out the centerpiece. Not sure exactly what you are referring to with "centerpiece" . Are you referring to the threaded hole on the hub that receives the octagonal locking nut? Please, could you expand a little on what you "wearing experience" was like.. Many thanks.
