Just got back from service on the 86 TR, Showing small leak from the left distributer cap (cam Seal), Leakage from the valve cover gaskets, multiple leaks from gaskets and seams on the transaxel assembly, shift shaft seal area leaking. The tech advisor said they are vey small leaks. Also he said I should replace all four engine transaxel mounts... Do you guys have any idea of what this should cost to fix???

Which is crazy cause this TR just had the full engine out service a few yrs ago and only 500 miles, any thoughts????

Too many variables to guess at cost.

Leaking gaskets could be poor workmanship, crummy gaskets (not uncommon) or both.

It's a fact, 24 year old Ferraris can develop leaks.

As far as the motor mounts, it's possible that they're bad (Ricambi has the prices). They probably weren't touched during an engine-out.

The distributor seal sounds like the really important fix as enough oil there will screw up driveability and cost you more.

Fill in your Profile so we have some idea where you are.

The only 500 miles since engine out service a few years ago guarantees leaks. Seals and gaskets both need lubrication from engine use to remain pliable in order to hold oil in

    Any thoughts?

    Yes.

Come on, live a little! Don´t just park the thing, use it! What are you trying to do, keep the car young while you age? It´s better to do it the other way round...!

Ideas on the the leaks - yes a few. I agree, have the distributor leak fixed, have the other seal areas degreased ("very small leaks" probably just means it sweats a little; as long as it doesn´t go on the cambelts it´s OK. I think Ferrari even put a sponge in the undertray of the 512TR´s because they always leaked some... that way they could keep the owners from complaining.

And then put the car to work. Please. For its good and most of all for yours.

Rubber seals need heat cycles and oil on them to keep them conditioned. Not driving the vehicle has caused your issues. This is why everyone should be wary of buying a very low mileage car with any age on it...

My 2 cents; Don't fix it, you aren't driving it anyway. If you do fix it, it will be in the thousands, so you might as well drive it. So park and don't worry about it. Or fix and start driving (and enjoying life). ;)

Driving it regularly may make some of the leaks go away. Fix the distributor leak. I've seen a couple comments on these cars going 200K miles with specific owners. The value on these cars has been dropping. I suggest you think about making it your daily driver. Use it up and enjoy every minute of it. Then we can have a thread when someone notices some guy driving a dirty TR every day. I know I'd like to be that guy.

    Got all that??

There has been a large issue with the gasket and seal sets we see, these days...

As these guys say, take it out and use it..........

If no one has mentioned it yet, the cars hold up better when driven regularly ;)

When I purchased my Mondial it had been driven 2000 miles over 4 years, 500 per year as stated by PO. It leaked from a number of minor places. After driving it more regularly a couple of the leaks stopped. Not all of them, but a couple did.
