Hello All, I have another issue that needs your input. After I change my accelerator cable, my cold idling does not hold at 2K anymore. I then adjusted the idling while it was cold to keep the car running and when it was hot, idling went up to 3k. This all happens after I change out the accelerator cable. So for now, i just have to sit there for 5 minutes or so, feathering the gas pedal until she warms up and all is well. Is there something I missed or should check to get the cold start idling back? Thanks everyone and have a safe Memorial weekend! Luu
I would say that the idle should only be adjusted with the car hot. In my 82 QV The cold idle is controlled by a separate air bypass valve which may not be functioning correctly. I would warm the car up, reset the idle now you have installed the new cable and look elsewhere. Make sure the cable is adjusted correctly and allowing the main butterfly to close.
Right now, I have adjusted the idle back to about 1K when hot. I just checked today and butterfly is fully closed. The cold idle is on the right side of the plenum and was untouched. Anything else I can check? Thanks again for the input!
2K sounds really high, hot or cold. My 86 US 3.2 idles below 1000, hot or cold. My 348 idles about 1100 cold, 1000 warmed up. Can't imagine a 2k idle.
I'm with Lou here. My 88 Mondial Cab when idle, hot or cold, revs steadily hover around 1000rpm. 2000rpm seems way high. I'm highly inexperienced, but I'd check the relays that handle the cold start sequence. Kind regards and best of luck, Nuno.
Hi Luu, The manual says normal idle speed should be at 1000 + or - 100 rpm. Check the vacuum for correct operations at normal idle. I had any problems with mine, so I never had to adjust it but I know that the point of the cold start up is to heat up the cats faster so your car will run cleaner per U.S. Federal requirements. This is done by the vacuum operated idle air by-pass located by the right front corner of the plenum chamber next to the oil dipstick. The vacuum supply hose runs through an electro switch. Check out this thread by Birdman and Rifledriver's answer may help you: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q/56204-how-do-i-reduce-cold-idle-speed-w-kjet.html Best, Mike
Long shot here, but it happened to me. After some work under the dash the idle went up to 2,000 rpm, and stayed there. checked everything, found out the floor mat came loose when I was working under the dash and it was pressing slightly against the gas pedal. Moved the mat and reattached the floor mat and idle fell back to normal, love those kind of fixes, glad I didn't chase the problem with expensive F-Car parts.. Good Luck
