We're doing NYC on Wednesday for the shopping / tree thing.

Can anyone recommend a place to take a family with young kids (2mo's, 18mo's and 3.5) for lunch or dinner? Preferably a loud / family oriented place with some sort of entertainment where I, I mean the other patrons, can't hear us.

    Thanks!

PS - Jeckyl and Hyde's is out.....

Carmine's. Huge family-style portions and good food. Definitely a raucous atmosphere, but always highly rated. 200 W 43rd St.

Give a shout if you end up going there. I'm a stone's throw away...

Bubby's in Tribeca isn't near Rock Center but it's great. Very kid-friendly but good for adults as well. Food and drinks are better than they have to be. Celeb-spotting possibilities fair to good, according to my wife, who actually recognizes them. Bonus: outstanding pies.

Mars 2112 is at 51 and Bway IIRC - you will be only a couple of blocks east. The place is huge and loud, with a cute, theme park-like entrance. Kids love it. For the grown-ups, there is bad food, high prices, weak drinks and a brain-dead staff. It's like Jeckyll and Hyde without the class. May have the lowest score in the Zagat guide. What's not to like?

Don't laugh, but my Dad (native New Yorker) introduced my kids to TAD's steak houses. They are scattered about Mid-town.
Way off on my first choice, but the kids LOVE it.

Also, as mentioned Mars2112....add to the hassles that there are usually long waiting lines. Kids rank it just below Tad's.

"Excuse me Earth unit, but do you have a first designation?" starts the waiter

Serendipity is great, but expect a long wait if you don't have a reservation (or even if you do). California Pizza Kitchen is super for the kids, and you can find something to eat on the menu too.

Thanks, all.....this is helpful. It's not often we brave a restaurant with the kiddies (they're kinda young to tolerate eating out)...let alone one in NYC. I'll print out the below and take with us......
