i noticed that the passenger side inner cv joint boot has slid approx. 1/8" away from the big end flange.
is this any cause for alarm? i was able to slide it back flush to the flange and it does not appear to be
damaged. the strap is secure and all seems ok otherwise.
is there a lip under the boot to keep the boot strap from sliding clear of the joint?
foregoing any "adverse" opinions from the 328 contingent, i'd prefer not to disassemble the shaft until
    otherwise necessary.

    Bill,
It's been a few years, but IIRC, there's a small ridge at the outside edge of the boot mounting cylinder. On my car the boots sit out about 1/4" from the large end flange.

The other current CV boot thread has links to some Fchat threads with pix of the CV boot mounting flange.
