I was thinking of backing out the screws a 1/4 turn, but thought that I need the next step anyway, which is to get a co sniffer and adjust to specs.

ok...............getting a CO tester, should be here by the weekend, car still running rich but running better then it ever has, but why keep messing with it, I will wait until I can see better with the analyzer, as to what I am adjusting and not just guess.

Just a humble side-bar observation here. I have muddled through working on my Testarossas using the sketchy information contained in the very poorly worded Ferrari shop manual. Having a shop manual is good, but they do have some incorrect information on occasion. So when I had questions, mainly concerning the elecrical circuits of the fuel injection system and it's controls....91TR was there to guide me through some extensive diagnostic procedures. Eventually I was able to fix my TR and have it running very well. I guess the point I'm trying to make is....you just can't put a price on guys like Steve and his responses. He goes the extra mile and makes things so clear. Even after being on this forum for years I never take his postings for granted. Thank You Steve for taking the time and effort to help out a fellow Ferrari owner. We all learn from each other's experiences. That's what makes this forum so priceless. But many of us here owe very much to a very few people...and 91TR is one of them. There...just wanted to say that....

Thanks for the kind words Gentlemen -- always glad to help out when/if I can (although sometimes I wish I didn't have to get to know my TR so g-d well ;)).

Tested CO levels, very high "rich", but we were aware that they were going to be, due to the 1/2 turn clockwise from last week.

Settled them down close to specs, could not get them exact, but pretty close. Ran very good when warm!

Next day, started, better cold start up, but not what it should be.

So i had to mess with it, well I fooled with it for a long time and went kind of back to were I was the previous day, seems like the right bank likes to run a tad richer then the left, just seems to run smoother and much more stable, if I would set each bank up to be the same, it would run worse, so i set the right bank up a little richer then the left, got decant readings, set them both the best I could and I will see how the cold start up goes this morning.

It seems that with having the car idle so long, readings would tend to be unstable, so had to allow for cooling time to get more accurate readings.

Also I tend to believe that the plunger or diaphram is worn, seems to have a mind of its own sometimes.

Every little thing effects something else, now that I am running alot closer to correct CO, the car definatly runs smoother, and the idle has increased to about 1250, used to ba at 1000, adjusting air bypass screws to maintain even vacume and idle then messes up the CO.

Is ther a way to adjust idle at both banks equally? By means of a screw to reduce the opening of the throttle plate at idle?

Also my cold starting problem? Could it be a series of worn out parts and diaphrams and mabye aux air valve? Or a combo of about 20 other things ...lol

I am getting ready to give up hope!

The air bypass screws are what you should use to adjust the idle speed. It is a tap dance to get everything on the same page, mixtures the same, vacuum the same, and idle bypass the same. Before I make any adjustments to the mixture I make sure everything else is in good working order, and install a new set of spark plugs. In my experience it takes 3 or 4 rounds of little tweaks to get everything dialed in. I believe that recently "91tr" did a nice write up of the procedures for setting the mixtures. Always adjust the screws from lean to rich...sneak up on it little by little. If you go too far rich, back up and do it again. After every little adjustment, be sure to plug the adj. screw holes, and give the motor a slight rev and then let it stabilize again, and take your exhaust readings. It is not an easy job to get these things running right...but be persistent.

The air bypass screws are what should be used under normal circumstances, you are correct.

But the evil previous owner may have adjusted something else to compensate..........

The air bypass wont get my idle down to where it needs to be. What about an idle stop postition screw, I think I seen something about that.

Anyway, I started this morning, and what do you know...........it ran real good, all the way from cold thru the warmup and out on the highway............ggrrrr.........starting to rain, cant take it to work, need to turn around and get my vette...........well I feel pretty good now, I have it set a little richer then stock, just seems to run and work better that way, not real rich like before, but a little, maybe because of my k&n air filter and hypewrflow cats and the less restrictive muffler.
