Stumbled across this, caught my attention and thought I'd share. (Mod, sorry if repost)

When I was a kid I had dreamed of building one of these; a flying, driving, floating car. Here's an interesting read:

Anybody have an idea on what its going to top $$? I'm guessing ... $140k for this peice of history.

This guy clearly states that it does fly. Man, would this be a premiss to a negligence suit? I can just see some rich idiot (Having grown up with the same dream as me ;P ) driving down the road and letting his curiousity 'Take Control' so to speak, and decide to push the controls up to find out that - Yes it does fly, but is unstable...ooooops!

My friend had that Pulse motorcycle car that replicated its looks, but was the 'safer', 2 dimensional version of it.

That was the Moller & it was a non-functional prototype. I'm not even sure what's up with Moller skycar now, their still selling stock but the damn things still won't fly.

This is the non-powered prototype that escaped destruction when the project shut down.

It won't fly and you'd better not try either.

There were 2 others (IIRC) with engines that were tested but were dangerously unstable. This is an undeveloped technology and this thing is really just a big dust collector.

Too bad it's not at Barrett-Jackson. Some yahoo would probably drop a mint on it before he figured out what to do with it.

Anyone know what happened to the "Futureliner". Now there was something big, expensive and pretty useless.

He states it'l fly. I guess it depends on what you call flying. Go up. flop around unstabily. Crash land. FLYING!

This is exactly the attitude that would twist an idiot like me into flipping that 'UP' switch - and crashing....

Interesting how the Moller has "evolved" over time. At first it was not going to have any amount of wing. The thought being that it would launch and then accelerate to a high (over 300 mph) speed where you didn't need much wing.... Then reality (reality really does bite) set in and they realized that the FAA won't let you go blasting along at more than 250 mph below 10,000 feet... Then the propulsion pods moved outboard (to gain lateral stability) and they had to make them fold up to keep the thing "streetable".... They have spent a fortune on this thing and still have a marginal design that has crept way outside of the original design parameters and is still creeping. Not to mention developing new engines and propulsion pods, it all is looking pretty "Rube Goldbergish" by now.

The flying car has been a dream for a long time, but I really don't think that trying to make an airplane that you can drive on the street is ever going to be a viable option.

As an aside, I would have thought that if you can take off vertically, you really don't need to make the car able to drive on the street anyway.
