If I were in the market, I wouldn't buy from them because of the following excerpt from the description: "...It shouldn't be confused with the "shark-nose" Ferrari 400 Testa Rossa, a GT sports car that ran in the World Championships, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans."
Hmmm,,, I think its cheap becasue its not an original 1988. The front bumper is a newer model. However its a nice car for the buck! J
I guess I would want to know what accident or other mishap possessed someone to slap a 512TR front on a TR?? CarFax is only as good as the insurance claims made on a damaged vehicle, so the Car Fax history is useless to me. Also, I wonder whether it is overdue for the 15k/30k service.
If it is not a scam, the car looks really good to me for $50k. It has drilled rotors and Brembo brakes, clean and no noticeable wear on the interior. Consistent with a 18k mile car. The 512TR front end needs to be explained (like what kind of damage was done to the original front end). Nice wheels, good up to date looming TR in my opinion. Not going to the concourse anyway. BT
The car has 512 bumper and wheels. Maybe just an 'update' by owner. Lots of folks perfer the 512 look b/c it (512) has better value. Mileage is not reliable, but car appears to be pretty clean. As for the engine, is that a turbo installed (red box in front of airbox)? The turbo would solve the price issue. Definately knocks the price down to the $50K value.
Here is what the bone stock car looks like. I predict it will sell for $75-85K due to one owner, low miles and documented service. It depends on what they will let it go for and if there are serious buyers. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4575726430&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT PS-I wouldn't be concerned about relistings on ebay. These cars sometimes take a while to sell, looking for the right price. The nice ones don't get listed without reserve, and there are lots of bargain hunters on ebay who will underbid the car. If reserve not met because there isn't two good bids over reserve, there is no way to know if the car even got an offer over the reserve.
The "red box" has to be just some sort of snake-oil passive device in the upstream intake tracts (like the "Tornado" or "Vortex" inserts) -- not an asset. I don't like to say "never", but what a classic "Florida" eBay ad -- the missing knob and the extra holes in the center console certainly are "exceptional". The wheels are aftermarket, although similar in style to 512TR (but with cheaper lugbolts). Something not quite right with the bodywork under the tailpipes either for a US version TR (is that also a 512TR piece?), and missing the sheetmetal+bellows for the air cleaner housing to engine hood doesn't inspire confidence in the engineering work that went into the intake tract modification.
My family has a place in FLA... when i was looking for a 308, I must have looked at 20 308's and other Ferrari's while at the same location. Almost every FlA ferrari I saw was beat and had some "story". There is a lot of junk down there... Some cars are nice and this one might be ok, but make sure you look at the car if you are at all serious. As for the updates, they are probably just that... updates.
Looks like i'll pass on this one. Seems like everybody agrees something doesn't look right. I'll have to keep looking.
Here's the age old question? How much do you want to spend Chris? You won't get a 95 point car for $50K. It will cost you closer to $75K, depending on mileage, although I don't think that should be the most important factor unless it is totally documented (the odometer could be lying).
Jim, i was looking in the 60's i figured thats a good price for a well maintain car, all updates, etc. Just makes it tough to go all over the country to look at these cars. Is there any independent Co. out there that will check on a car for a fee?
I'm almost positive this car needs a 30k, but you might want to give this car a look. http://www.fantasyjunction.com/used-cars.php?id=a4c01368d0beae03d79a6d6cf0a269c1
I, too, didn't want to imply that this (repaired?) TR is valueless. If you could get it serviced, with the air intake system restored, and the knob replaced , for ~$50K that wouldn't be too unreasonable IMO for what is still a fairly serious piece of mechanica (but my personal preference would be to deduct a few more $K for the wheels). I like the way that that 30K mile 1990 TR is being sold (i.e., low price and Buyer gets the service done) and is how I'd buy if I had a choice (but I wouldn't go over $50K in the unserviced condition for that example -- JMO).
There is a guy near Tampa/St. Pete area that will find you a good car for a fee...I have also done biz with a guy on Long Island that might be able to fix you up...PM me and I will give you contact info. Jim
