It's definitely not factory. Probably a warning light for an aftermarket alarm that the car has or had.

Looks like an aftermarket alarm light...

Not factory. Maybe a radar detector or alarm.

It took me forever to find one that HADN'T been drilled for aftermarket stuff. Usually it's the door tops that get drilled.

My alarm red light is between the two vents below the radio. Good place for it, and still very visible.

Exact same place my radar detecor light was installed...now I need to find out what model it is.

My 328 also came with a 1980's car phone setup so I have a car phone antenna mounted to the roof (soon to be replaced by XM). When people ask what it is I ask if they've seen ScarFace and rememner when Tony Montanna is buying that Porsche and he's like: "An gimmeone of dem phone, and a scanner, and make this bullet proof here, here, and here"

That is the flux capacitor light. Comes on when you are low on flux!!!

Seriously I would say alarm--my 89 does not have one...

Mine was below the gear shift. Was done by 1st owner. Also had old cell phone mounted below (had 4 screw holes in the leather).

Some bozo drilled a hole in mine too, at the same spot as Theo's. At least mine looks sort-of factory and is very small. It also doesn't work, I ripped the guts out of the whole alarm system. Took nearly 3 hours to get it all.

At least it's only one. I have two holes by the door lock pulls -- the LEDs fell out long ago!

Dito to the other posts. LED alarm indicator light.
At least it isn't a "key pad". I haven't had a chance to figure out what it's going to look like if I take it off or how to take it off..... and how big a whole it will leave. Might just leave it on. Alarm has been disconnected. Key pad is just to the left of the ignition switch. I'll have to post a picture so others (like me) can shake their heads. Guess that was a big deal in the 80's.

When it glows red, it is time to change the belts!
