Should have gotten at least 10 for that price but not many people have that big a hole in the ground that needs filling.

That must be a World Record price for a BiTurbo.

I too talked to the owner, and it was in fantastic shape. I considered sticking around another day to bid on the car but didn't. At SCM's high book it would have been a deal. SCM's high book is $10k.

I called my wife to get the price and about choked when she told me.

Really makes me wonder about Barrett in terms of how real those prices were yesterday and late Saturday. The sales total had to be down from 07'.

That is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Maybe the door panels are filled with white powder or gold.

It must have been one of the Biturbos that isn't currently on fire. Those are more sought by collectors.

Give the car a BIT more credit than that, although $80k is insane. But if you have a nice Maserati collection, where else are you going to get a PRISTINE manual transmission BiTurbo convertible? Someday these cars aren't going to the throwaway cars they get ribbed for. They certainly won't approach rare Ferrari/Maserati prices, but give the things at least some credit. Not only that, but this is a later model with the crucial engine updates.

I would figure that car itself would be worth $15-20k....which is quite a bit for a BiTurbo, but then again, where else can you find one that pristine and in a manual transmission?

Did any one look at the auction results? I read it as $8000 which is about right unless it's an unbelievable example.

I could point you to a 92 that recently sold for well over $200K though. Care to guess which model?

We actually considered a Bi-Turbo for our 24 Hours of LeMons car. It fit the budget, but it was deemed unlikely to last 24 hours.

Is that the event they run at Altamont in California? I think someone did enter a Biturbo in it once.
Most likely it's the current condition of the car more than the type of car that's the big issue and with Biturbos it's usually bad.
    Very, very bad.

    That's more like it.

It did say $80K yesterday on the BJ website.

Did anyone record Sunday, just to be sure there wasn't some funny business?

It wasn't your imagination. I cut and pasted the thing when it said $80,000.00. I was in disbelief! Glad to hear it was a typo!

If it was truly in great conditions with no surprises waiting then yes. Big if though.

The auction description is pretty bad. Clearly they let someone who knows nothing about these cars do the write up.
That or an outright liar. I like these cars but this is just too much.

BTW, which brother was Officine? I can't find any of his racing results.

"When Officine Maserati created this car he incorporated all of his personal experience as a racecar driver and manufacturer of sport and racing cars. He created a dream car including all modern comforts with great road handling, a chassis highly reliable under all circumstances and brakes which never fade even after extensive use. In my 25 years of dealing with automobiles, I've never seen a Maserati in such incredible original condition."

Don't you just love auctions ...
