Im still on the hunt ... Came across this 1989 Modial in Santa Rosa California (see link below)... any comments or questions I should be drilling the dealer about? History service records? Any recalls to be aware of? What about the price? it seems to be one of the pricier ones around, but what should it be?

Any one know what wheels these are?

    Thanks again for your help!

You didn't say if you actually saw the car in person - or sat in it. The reason I mention it is because the 89 model drivers seat is very narrow - too narrow for my 34" waist. Make sure you fit!
By the way, the seats were widened on 1990 and newer models

Very low mileage if it is accurate. The dash panel with the Ferrari badgin seems strange. I don't know if that is factory, but someone else here probably does. Don't really care for the Lambo style shift knob. Factory or other knob is a cheap changout though. Pictures can be deceiving, but those show a very nice condition car. Probably several thousand over market price, but it should be worth mid-high $40's. You can get stock 348 wheels really cheap if you wanted to change out the wheels on the car.

    Overall, a nice looking car!

Badge on console is covering the digital clock. I'd ask why.... Also that gear shift is terrible :)

Durpen is correct about the seats - I have an 89 also and they suck (read as "I should lose weight"...)

The sills on these have a metal strip riveted on - it is hard to see on this car whether there is any curb damage. They get damaged very easily, so it is nothing to really worry about, but they can conceal other damage to the underside, so make sure you check there.

What really worries me however is the mileage. If it is true, it is too low and there are lots of rubber components just waiting to crack, split, leak, or otherwise cause grief. I'd be planning on replacing pretty much every rubber hose and doing a major service soon.

If it's not the true mileage, well.... enough said!

I bought mine with 43000 on the clock, and have added another 8000 in 5 1/2 months. No leaks, no noises, just a great car I drive everyday. There are a few minor cosmetic details I need to attend to, but that is to be expected.

I am also in the process of replacing some of the electric components, but that is out of choice not neccesity. As I use it to transpoprt the kids to school, I am also installing a set of 4 point harnesses in the back - that lap sash does not inspire much confidence in the event of a crash.

Hope this helps a little, Dave

p.s. it is overpriced though..... no more than 45K

Guys ... thanks for all of the feedback ... im actually flying out this Friday to see it ... so ill let you know. I'll keep all of those points on hand and hopefully ask the right questions. figured it was on the high $$$ side. But its still worth a look and see what can be done!
The comment on the seats is intriguing and never thought about ... how much bigger are the seats on the '90's? anyone know?

The seats in a 1989 are not too awful narrow. Pull your fat Ferrrari wallet out of your back pocket if you want your butt to fit better.

    That works for me ;)

    Dave,

Where did you find the 4-pt harnesses? I'd love to replace my lap belts with something that will do the job in the event of an accident. As it is, I rarely take my daughters in the car. Let me know.

If you're in CA already, there's a nice '89 Mondial at Cardiff in San Diego - very nice car, priced about the same, completely stock. I think they're pretty soft on the price however as they've had it for some months now.

The seats on my '88 are great! I'm only a 33 waist however...seems to be lots of room for a larger person!

Perhaps take a look at some '87s and '88s - the 3.2 has a great reputation for reliability and these are going for $5k-$10K less!
