Can some kind soul shed some light on how the heck to get the forward console panel (under the radio slot) and shifter panel off in order to replace (likely) bad switches for bonnets and radio aerial? There was a thead here somewhere before that I can no longer find. No clue on how to get the vertical console off and I get loosening the ashtray screws to free the horizontal switch panel, but it won't lift out. Help appreciated. Thanks

Did you take the shifter gate off yet?
My panel was quite finicky too, there's the light emitter "spider web" that illuminates all the symbols, i think you need to disconnect that part because it is connected to a bracket that stays after the panel is removed (after 2 hours in my case). I started to loosen everything, and take the ashtray out, there is a light connection to it, that must be removed. I also had some zap straps and labels to mark what switches were what. Remove switch, place it behind the panel, label it, replace switch.
The next bither was the fan and temp gauge knobs... they have a tiny allen wrench hole in the side that needs to be loosened before removal. The cigarette lighter was also a PITA and is spring loaded, mine was a bit rusty, and wasn't fun.
I wish you luck, i am also replacing the stickers on top of the panel and the ones up above the radio slot with new ones. (mine were delaminating) I have a shop creating them on CAD- if you'd like a new set yourself, perhaps i can get him to print off two.
PM me if interested, or if i can help with your removal further.

Thanks for the assist. By taking the cassette tray, ashtray and shifter gate off, I was able to get the console panel up enough to slide in a new aerial switch (note Ferrari Parts ships an incorrect part when you order a new one of these for the 89 Cab...long story). However, I still have no clue how to get the panel above the radio so that I can R/R what I think is a bad boot bonnet switch. Yanking the radio yields no clues. My panel labels are fine, but thanks for the offer. ck

Are these switches supposed to light up, like the ones on the centre console? My suspension switch lights up but the others don't.

On my 89, with the headlights on, I get 3 lighted switches/controls on the console: Suspension switch, ashtray red light and cigar lighter surround. I can see a very dim white light source from behind the black vertical switch panel above the radio slot, and there's another light that sits underneath the storage tray to the right of the shifter, but I have absolutely no idea what those lights are, where they come from or what they're supposed to illuminate.

However, having torn all the rocker switches apart, with the exception of the suspension switch, none of them have lights in them. Braille would have been a nice touch. Hope this helps.

    Hi Chuck,

I have answers to a couple of your questions.

First, lets deal with the vertical panel. There are several lit areas on this panel. The suspension and hazard switches include internal lighting. The row of panel switches is lit with 2 fibre-optic lights that light up a clear plastic unit that sits east-west on the panel lighting up the trunk lid switches. The fibre-optic lights are lit by a small light that distributes the light through the fibre optics. I removed mine and found that the end was burnt not allowing much light through to the optic ends. I used some fine sandpaper to sand the burnt glass (plastic?) off the end and am in the process of finding an appropriate LED replacement... I am looking at www.euramtec.com or www.superbrightleds.com.

Second, the horizontal panel. There are several areas lit with a more robust fibre-optic network. The fibre-optics light the following switches: door lock, antenna, blank, fog lights, window lock, parking light, and the outsides of the fan dial, temperature dial and cigar lighter. Please note that the cigarette lighter also has its own light source that lights up the outside of the cigar lighter with green light. The A/C switches are lit with their own light. It is one light that illuminates a green colored piece of plastic.

There is also a light on the ashtray that is lit only when the ashtray is opened. When opened, the lid connects with a piece of metal that completes the circuit, and the light illuminates (my guess).

As for the mystery light on the side of the gear shift, i am suggesting that it could be the ashtray light...?

I will explore the extra light more tomorrow and report back.

Thanks. I had no clue about the LED sources. Awaiting your further illumination (pun intended).

The ashtray light is a separate incandescent 12v bulb, not LED, and not related to the light source I'm seeing under the storage tray...it's something else, but it comes from the same power source (when headlights switched on). Dying to see what the white light behind the upper black switch panel turns out to be.
