What if any major differences! Found an excellent car with 6500 miles.

I may be wrong but I thought the only change in slight spec on the Series 1 TRs was when they swapped from single centre nut to 5-stud wheels.

I think the single bolt wheels stopped just after my car was produced in 1987.

I don't think there are any major differences between these two cars, it probably all minor or cosmetic. The only thing I can think of is ABS brakes but I don know when they were introduced.

The big changes were when the models changed TR -> 512TR -> 512M.

I don't think any testarossa had ABS. If I recall it came with the 512TR in 1992.

Didn't they improve the seatbelt mouse for 90?

There are no differences between the two years. Just for California 1990 was the final year. 1991 testarossa did not meet federal smog laws.

I had a 1990 sold it for a 1992 512 tr huge difference. Ride Power steering and brakes were a bonus. I also had a F512M.. very similar to the 512tr. Just a bit more on power.
Braking was the same. ABS was installed on very few 1992 512TR Models in 1993 and 1994. There were more 512tr with ABS. Some liked the system or did not like the system.

I liked it in the wet. The ABS Works in the wet. I felt it work. The 1990 testarossa brakes worked better in the dry. In the wet was a totally different story. Use caution while driving in the wet.

    Happy New Year.

If you search "Recambi Ferrari parts they have separated the parts lists for 1990+ TR's with many parts. I just ordered a complete clutch kit and flywheel for my '91 TR and there where different part numbers for the earlier models. I'm not sure if the changes are for improving reliability or just accommodating changes with part suppliers. Some part changes are referenced to production serial numbers, so it can be a bit tricky when ordering parts.

    Hope this helps,

    David

Yes, I always wondered about 1990+ parts vs. pre-1990. Is it just a change in the part number coding or an actual change in some designs?

ha ha ha, they decided to go drinking with the parts manufacture guys, you know who lost the bet so they just changed part numbers. Oh well, it's what gives the cars character. :)

Are the 1991 Testarossa's not emission ready for California as noted in a reply a few days ago? Can this be changed or should us in California stay away from the 1991?
