below 2000 rpms in 7th gear....in comfort mode...feels like its getting bogged down and confused. i always do the same commute since mile 1 so im surprised i never noticed it before. anyone else notice it?

I'm not getting into 7th at 2k revs........but I have noticed how early the car changes up through the gears, especially compared to the 599 and 612. I regularly see 6th gear at 30mph in "comfort", which I don't like given it requires three downshifts to get anything close to useable torque. "Sport" mode seems to have a better balance.

yeh. i may be off on the numbers, ill check on the way home. but in comfort at around 65 mph i think im below 2k rpms in 7th gear in auto. accelerating from there is a bit sloppy.

Try leaving it in Sport mode to compare?

Comfort definitely changes up very quickly, especially if cruising.

i know there is no good rationale behind this, but for the FF i like auto....manual is almost boring...never felt that way in the 458...im weird, what can i say

sport doesnt help. i tried that. still gets u to 7th gear at that speed

7th gear in the FF (and 458) is tall....in FF I almost think of it as cruise gear ("overdrive" from the old days)

The engine is strong across the band, but at 2k rpm, it has less grunt than just a few hundred revs up

AUTO seems designed to get you into, and keep you, in the highest gear possible, and it shifts up quickly. I believe - could be wrong - this is to help meet the CAFE economy standards, reduce emissions and keep it smooth. First two reasons again I believe are since Ferrari does DOT and EPA testing assuming it's in AUTO mode.

Comfort has a definitively different throttle map and shift map, so comfort mode will always be softer in response than Sport.

I haven't tried to pull in Auto from 2K (rarely/never use auto except in snow, in snow mode) but would imagine all this is exacerbated in AUTO.

IIRC (I'll try next time in our FF), when you punch it in auto it should downshift. I'd imagine you could have something off in the engine or gearbox, but would also imagine you'd get a fault/alert warning.

IMHO best thing about the FF is letting that V12 rip through the gears, with the kids on board screaming in the back seat. (and that's usually with my wife driving). AUTO is only useful for snow and stop-and-go traffic.

As above, get out of Auto unless on snow or ice. I have only about 7,200 miles on mine since late October and at 65mph if I want to accelerate at all I downshift at least one or two gears, down to second if I am next to a Prius!:D

I guess I'm a bit weird, too. I prefer to leave it in auto on the highway. Can't see any reason to mess with the paddles when just cruising. But I do usually put it in sport mode when out of stop and go traffic. At highway speed the throttle sensitivity and apparent jerkiness at coarser inputs is not as harsh as in stop and go and I prefer the more rapid response I get to inputs.

When I want to pass, just hit the throttle more aggressively and it drops down three or four gears and goes. If i want to really make a scene, i hit the left paddle at the same time and it goes to the lowest possible gear (2nd at like 65 results in a pretty amazing rush of speed and noise) otherwise it usually drops down into 3rd, which gives pretty amazing acceleration under full throttle. In Sport mode at much lighter throttle application, it'll usually drop into 6th gear pretty quickly and hold that for a while before going back up to 7. In comfort mode it drops down a gear less readily and back into 7 more readily, and under heavier throttle drops down maybe one less gear than in sport mode and a bit more slowly.

I also noted at about 10k miles the engine was starting to get a bit rough at idle. Then we traded in for the new car and still only have 5k miles with no issues at all so far. Maybe yours is getting close to about time for a small adjustment?

I use mine in both Auto and Manual, but always in Sport mode and it's never a disappointment! However, cruising today at 60/65mph, it mostly sat in 6th gear, only changing up to 7th when sitting at and above 70.

Give it the old Italian tune up. 8k rpm upshifts all the way to 130 mph. That should clear it out.

Thanks, as another very wise FChatter says, if you have a beautiful girlfriend do you not make love to her every chance you get just to save her for her next boyfriend?

This FF is stupid amazing! Pouring down rain this morning and what a rock solid fast drive taking my daughter to school!
