I was walking into class in grad school. A TV was on at the lobby of our building and we were all watching in disbelief. A few days later a memorial was held in the auditorium for an alum who was killed when trying to stop the hijackers in a plane that hit the towers. Daniel Lewin was 31, co founded Akamai, a billionaire (on paper) and named one of the most influential people of the Internet. His story is very interesting, almost everybody surfing the internet uses the technology developed by Lewin/Akamai to speed up downloads. http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2001/lewin.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_M._Lewin
the thing that sticks out in my mind most about that day was every class we went into, all we did was sit there and watch the news. the next day, all we did in every class was sit there and talk about what happened. this was my generations jfk/pearl harbor, and it has definitely defined life for us over the past 7 years.
Was in school at the time, I overheard one teacher saying that two planes just crashed into the Twin Towers. All I could understand was the plane crash part. I was too young back then to understand more, less than 8 years old. 6 years and 10 months later to the day, I took the second picture attached during my first trip to NYC. (Resized for easier looking) After that I found one almost identical............. from 9/11. Words can not describe what I feel as I compare these two pictures. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was in a training session at the time, had absolutely no clue what had happened until we took a break at about 9:30 or so. One of the guys phoned home for some reason, then told us what had happened. My first reaction was to look at my watch to see if it was April 1.....seriously. Kinda tough to concentrate on the subject matter after that, so the trainers grudgingly let us go at noon. We weren't sure if maybe Toronto was going to be a secondary target or not. The streets were filled with people heading home early, but I will always remember how quiet it was. No-one was talking. It was really strange. For the longest time, I couldn't get the people in the planes out of my mind, wondering what he!! they must have gone through. Bothers me that I never got to see the WTC in person. Nei
