    I went to bed minutes before the first tower was struck at 8:46 a.m. EDT. I was awakened a short time later by my fiancee who was dressed for work, indeed, had come and gone and been sent home, and was weeping like there was no tomorrow. I remember thinking through the fog of sleep, "who died?" - she held my hand, pulled me to the couch quickly, pointed to the television, and I instantaneously wept.

    Was I seeing this live as events unfolded or was it being rebroadcast in it's entirety ? I don't know. It was a horrible, incomprehensible blur of time and place and carnage. I do know that when I sat on the couch expecting the worst, it was just about that time I saw that first tower fall - at 10:28 a.m. EDT to be precise. It took four seconds for that towering height to meet the earth. It's sister tower had already collapsed at 9:59 a.m., having been struck at 9:02 a.m..

    That I know I saw rebroadcast. I can't erase the memory of the planes hitting the towers, nor should I. I remember the fear and uncertainty as one by one, just as Flights 11 and 175 were becoming part of my vocabulary, it became known to me that flight 77 had hit the Pentagon at 9:38 a.m. and Flight 93 had crashed at 10:06 a.m. in Pennsylvania.

    The talk was that more Flights seemed to be missing, but much to our relief, they'd found safe passage elsewhere. To say the least, it was eerie not seeing familiar sights of planes coming and going in Los Angeles. To say the least, it was an eerie sight when flights resumed. One examines architecture of tall buildings a lot more closely when one does not know what tomorrow brings. Suffice it to say, the moment, the here and now, friends and family - everything matters as it never did before.

    It took several days before I slept again. At all. Fitful for months thereafter. I try not to visualize what I know I will give in to on 9/11 from here to eternity, because it pains me. Nevertheless, I awoke expecting the worst, but nothing - nothing - prepared me for that. The least I could do is yield and open the floodgates of the indelible memory of 9/11. The grief comes naturally. Moreso for those whose loved ones sleep eternally.

    Thanks for the reminder. May God bless those who lost loved ones on that infamous day and may he find forgiveness to the Muslim extremists who were behind it.

    As many are finding out... payback is a b*tch!

    May the Lord also bless those who are serving in our armed forces to keep us safe.

    The planes not flying that day will be the part I will always remember. After closing my company down around 10am that morning and going home and watching the news all day I finally needed to go out in my hot tub to relax and reflect on the days events. I live on the coast near Logan airport and am under one it's flight path which was annoying as many times the roar of a jet would block out my music. But sitting out there that night and not hearing any of those annoying sounds or seeing the planes lights, just made me cry.

    Sad day. It's one that everyone remembers for where they were, or what they were doing.

    I can only hope that the families of the victims are healing, and that time washes away some of their pain.

    cant watch tv either, i went out this morning and just drove forever
    they say that you never forget where you were when kennedy was shot .... i wasn't alive then but i can never forget the moment when i found out what happened this day

    my sympathies with all their families and all of our troops
