I revceived the eBay 400i yesterday from the shippers. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280110058379 It is just as described. Straight body, original paint. Mostly very clean. The reason it didn't run, turns out to be that during the 5 years that it sat in storage, the fuel separated and sediment fouled the pumps and filters. A quick test with starter fluid, and it fired right up. It will take a couple of weeks to change out all the worn rubber ( belts, hoses, motor mounts ) and service the trans, replace the fuel pumps and filters, maybe clean out the fuel tank, et al. There is also some minor electrical work to do ( as always ). I was a bit suspicious at first. But now pleasantly suprised.
Holy Crap that is a smokin Deal !!!!! You did really really good on that one! Wow is all I can say as I sit here shaking my head in amazement!
buddy, that is an unfu<kin'believableoutfu<kin'standingdeal !!! wow, good for you. beautiful. even if you spend 10k, 20k, or 30k and do everything (motor, suspension, exhaust) you're still miles ahead . dude, no matter what...great deal. cool car. brett
I had actually planned to neither sell it or keep it ... exactly. My mechanic in Las Vegas who takes care of my other Ferraris has always wanted one for himeself. So, he asked if I ever found one that needs lots of work for less than $10k, we could make some deal for labor hours on the other cars so he could have one for a project. He likes the look of the 400 seiries 2+2s allot. I have a 400i cabriolet he is workign on. So, the PLAN was I would get him this one to play with and I would save some on the resto work on my 365 boxer and the upcoming clean-up work on my Daytona. So, he calls me today and tells me ( sounding almost disapointed ) that this car doesnt actually need much work. As if, it's almost not as much fun if he doesnt have to ( read "get to" ) take it all apart. Things were further complicated when a business asociate of mine came by the shop to look at the on-going Boxer resto. He saw the new 400i and asked if he could buy it right then. ( actually right after he heard the motor fire up ). So, we will see how things shape up over the next couple weeks. Of course, this probably means I wont be getting the Boxer back any time real soon...
Congratulations on that. I was looking at it hard but had to pass. Sounds like you're going to do real well.
Not sure where "Bixby" is, but if the car has no cats, and you need some help getting it smogged, PM me.
Bixby is near Tulsa, Oklahoma. But the car is in Las Vegas now. I just got a call from my mechanic today. He got it up and runing. It took him a while to clean out the fuel system and repair the wiring issues. Seems that while the car sat in storage for several years the fuel separated and clogged up the pumps, filters, et. al. I does have cats already. But, just like my other 400i, it only has a lambda controller on one side. I guess you are supposed to hope that the smog guys put the tail pipe sensor on THAT side
