You would want to ask when the 15k service was done and if he has records. The car only has 18k but it should have had a service at 15k or before do to age.Service records are extremely important as to gauge what your getting into. The car looks like its in great condition though.

why are some 348s sporting black lower panels (like the one mentioned
    here) ?

I have viewed a couple of them locally and its a bit of a lottery whether
it comes fully body coloured or black.

    cheers.

    Pistole,

Early 348s (tb/ts) came with black sills standard.
Later 348s (GTSs, 348GTBs, Spider and some others special series) came with clour coded sills as standard.

I'm probably missing some more details but that's the general rule (the 348 experts will correct me). I think the cut-off date is from 07/92 (Model year 93). I don't have the cutoff s/n.

A good number of Early 348s (like mine) have had their sills colour coded. As usual, a matter of personal taste.

    Where are you in Malaysia?

    Rgds,

    Louis

True. You should check the interior plastic to see if it is sticky which is common. It bothers some, but most people just clean it and repaint it or leave it plain plastic. If you look at the exhaust ECU's the new ones have green connectors inside and are a good thing to see. The previous style tend to go bad over time and cost about $600 each. Or you can remove the catalytic converters and use test pipes and just disconnect the cat ECU's. Of course don't agree to buy without a clean PPI. They are fun cars. The early ones have a little different suspension and are twitchy at high speed. With rear wheel spacers (25mm) they handling is similar to the later models. The 89 348 have different seatbelts (no mad mouse) and different seats. I really like the 348 and think it is a great first Ferrari.

This car currently belongs to an Fchatter. I think that he's probably pretty straight up with the ad and any responses.

FWIW, I came very close to buying this car from Ron Tonkin last summer and it was represented as a perfect car by RTGT. I think that the current owner found a few areas that needed attention and he dealt with it. It is, by all accounts, a better car to own at this point.

In regards to sticky parts. I have read a lot of posts where people have cleaned them with various different solutions. My question is, why not just replace those parts rather then clean them? If I am not mistaken Ricambi sells the tunnel plate on the center console for $220. Wouldnt it be better option beacause it would factory new again?

I am just asking becasue I am due to take delivery of 91 TS and it does have the sticky affliction.

I looked at this car about a year ago at Ron Tonkins..................If I remember correctly at the time the service wasn't up to date. Other then that the car is pretty immaculate................or at least was 1 year ago.

You can change out the parts like you said. The factory parts will start to suffer the same affliction after about 10 years. The vents would cost around $800 to replace all three. So around $1100 for the main sticky parts to replace, plus the work to replace them. While it would be nice to have new factory parts, I am okay with cleaned parts for a project cost of around $10. Goof Off 2 and some Qtips. Works like a champ.

Black lower panels were original on '89 - '92. Any model year in that range that does not have them as well as black rear deck has been repainted. At least the lower panels.

'93 and up had "speciale" paint in which the panels were body colored. This carried over to Euro GTB/GTS's, spyders, and '94 tb/ts's.

I kind of like the red leather interior. With all that red it is funny that the lower valances are black. Sounds like the seller has worked the bugs out of the car and it may make a pretty reliable Ferrari. Good luck!

Thats a lot of RED! Goodness. Make sure you wear shades!

I cant believe the current bid on a 91 TB is $47,000 and the current bid on my 95 Spider is $45,000 !?!?!

If his buy it now is $55,000..then my 95 Spider is a steal. Seems kinda high for a 91 TB

I think there were some factory gearbox up-grades on those early year cars, would check that, also check all maintenance records very carefully to see what was done.

Theres a great '92 348 TB on there right now for less money than that. I know the previous owner and I have ridden in the car. He took really good care of it and it is in great shape. Maybe you should take a look at that one.
