    I'd be really pissed if I spent $500k+ on a 911r

I think nothing! I believe the 911R 'politic' which Porsche is follow won't be a success.

If you did it would be your own fault, since the car was priced under $200k and anyone paying more, did that at his own peril.

There is no big difference besides the fact that you have a leather interior, no wing, no pts, no sports package incl cage, silver frames for the windows and only stick shift. Price here in germany is the same as the GT3

absolutely it's self inflicted, but a lot of people did it because Porsche went so far out of their way to hype the exclusivity, "last of the manuals", GT3 for the street nature of that car.

what's the German for caveat emptor? :)

nothing new here... don.t understand why buyers wait for the marketing dept to create a new option pkg / before ordering a car exactly the way one wants it... there is no need to wait for a designated options pkg, Porsche will build a car to YOUR spec as long as the parts are available... I would speculate that new option pkgs / models are the result of Porsche recognizing there is demand for what is being ordered and responding by creating a new pkg to simplify ordering by checking a single box just like with Burger King... "have it your way"

well, that is good news. Just like the 911R was the car that some of us wanted, this sounds like it fits the bill too. Very good news indeed.
