I thought the GT3 was extremely unstable and unsafe without the rear wing!?:rolleyes:

At speed, it is, as Porsche AG veteran Jürgen Barth told me personally, and that is why the GT3 Touring package does have a wing, as demonstrated in the image below by factory test driver Walter Rorhl.

The new car's wing lies dormant at traffic speeds, but deploys as soon as the aero is required. Without the aero, at speed, it would be extremely unstable & unsafe. The new system deletes the fixed rear wing and replaces it with the automatic extending spoiler of the standard Carrera (new software algorithms raise it higher than it does on the 911 because of the GT3's increased performance envelope).

Deleting the fixed wing on the old car and replacing it with an engine cover with no means of affording the required aero at speed was a recipe for disaster, as Porsche Ag's development engineer was at pains to leave me in no doubt of.

That said, I realize that you can't save some people from themselves, and a car's owner has the right to modify the car however they want to give it a look that pleases them

I'd guess Porsche still offers more than 20 flavors of 911. Ludicrous, but I was at the dealer yesterday and all the 911s on the floor had red SOLD tags on the windshield. Including used ones.

Good luck finding a new GT3.
