The 997 RS 4.0 is the worst engine ever. I dont know how many engines were changed. Friend of mine using it on the track has the third engine with 17000 km on the clock. And guess what he is by far not the only one. I have seen one car in Hockenheim blowing up. So as a collectors car I agree. For the driving fun, no way !

Interesting. I know several owners, past and current and haven't heard anything like this.

Are you looking to buy one? ;)

With a setup like that I wouldn't either. I'd just wander around it thinking "Life is good, life is really freakin' good". Which I do as well - but just not as well as you :)

So did anyone here manage to flip one of these for $500K while they were hot? And if you did, have you sent the buyer a condolence letter yet?

Man, these are sitting at $300K right now. I remember when people were asking 400, 450, 500K. LOL. Ouch to anyone who bit.

I think 911R we’re under $200k new, frankly I’m amazed they are still $100k over, if that is really where they are.

It was even more ridiculous than $500,000.

The uninitiated are actually still under the impression that new GT cars are worth a considerable premium over sticker. Look at the prices being paid for the new, unlimited-production GT2 RS in comparison to today's values for the 500-unit only, manual transmission 997.2 GT2 RS (of which there are just over 100 in the USA).

A reputable source recently determined that, at present, 40% of all new Porsche 911 sales are now "GT" division cars. It's actually fairly difficult to get a "normal" 911 at dealers because they are focusing the production lines so heavily on the GT cars. This is fantastic for Porsche, fantastic for driving enthusiasts, and fantastic for those who will purchase these cars in a few years at fairly steep discounts. But, this is not a recipe for wise investment.

I live between two Porsche dealers (5 miles north and south). I've dealt with both dealers. Neither will charge more than MSRP. However, you have to be a long time good customer before you can order any GT cars. You can get a 911 Carrera, GTS, or Turbo S by giving them a deposit.

Wow, just finished the thread from start to finish. Wondering if anyone is willing to share some thoughts after having driven one? I've seen some Porsche guys praise this car and claim it is much more than the sum of its parts..

Having just re-read this thread, I find it ironic to see so much moaning about 911R prices on Ferrarichat of all places.
Consider what a 599GTO or 599 6-speed manual costs relative to a 599, or a TDF relative to an F12.

As far as what makes a 911R special...
The 911R's cabin is bare (e.g., no nav, just a shelf normally) and has minimal sound insulation (to that point that you can hear all kinds of noises - the throttle open and close, clutch and gear chatter, etc), and the car is not oversprung like current RS cars, but softer like older RS cars, and oversteers like a hooligan. And lets not forget how responsive and light the car is (light-weight flywheel and 200lbs less than a GT3). Side-by-side in 2nd gear, the 911R puts 5 car lengths on my GT3 before the GT3 even starts responding.

Relevant comparisons to a 911R are a 964 RS, a Singer, or perhaps a RUF SCR. Unfortunately none of those cars are cheap, or anywhere near as turnkey or reliable to drive. Also, they generally lack modern crash protection and safety features.

While Porsche won't do restomods, or even an Icona series like Ferrari, the 911R is as close as it gets to a modern-day factory built retro hot-rod Porsche. Still, there is nothing like it.

Porsche prices around the globe are very consistent. this car was bid to $300k. what are these cars selling for in the US...not asking, Selling? I have a near perfect 2018 Touring that we may sell and replace with an R.

My guess on current US market is 400k to 600k.

Suggest calling Isringhausen or Merit Partners if you are looking to buy one.
Both those dealers would know current pricing better and could source a car.

And Isringhausen has one currently. Asking 499k

There was a dual-mass flywheel car at the Lamborghini dealer in SLC that took forever to sell. Last asking price was $399,000 and it did sell. I would want the single-mass flywheel but would prefer changing it versus paying a premium for a car that came with it standard.
