Im mostly a lurker here, but ultimately I am passionate about cars and spend hours on here a week. I'm a college student majoring in Automotive Management and I had an opportunity to drive one of my dream cars recently.

I was at a high school graduation party after work one day when I ran into a family friend. George has always had nicer European cars, primarily 911 Carreras or cayennes and he has always known about my interest (read: obsession) with sports cars. He started to explain how he had just purchased a 2011 911 Turbo S from someone who had turned it in for a GT3 RS. He bought it from a dealer in Atlanta and had it shipped to his primary home in Bloomfield Hills, MI to be used as his summer driver. He started to explain how much quicker the car was than his previous 911, which I had ridden in and how smooth the new PDK trans is.

Then he popped the question. He asked me if I wanted to take it for a spin. I was shocked. I probably stared at him for a good 10 seconds and then took the key from him. Even more surprisingly, he didn't even come with me. He told me, "your paying for the ticket...."

So I walked toward the white TTS and took a seat in the black interior with white stichting. It was one of the most beautiful Porsche's I have ever seen. Then I started the flat 6, and mentally thought through the paddle shift transmission. I have to admit that this is the first "flappy paddle" gearbox I've ever driven. Then I pulled out onto the main road, trying to remind myself that this car is worth more than everything I own combined.

I actually fit very nicely in the car (Im 6' 5") and I felt like the car was sucking its self to the road. The grip is just phenomenal. The steering felt medium weighted (to me at least) and was very sharp. I was getting comfortable in the car.

Then I floored it. "Holy Crap is this thing fast!" To be honest, I hit the rev limiter once. You have to think ahead and prepare to shift since the 7 ratios are shorter than a normal 6 speed box. You are shoved back into the seats. I think I still have the Porsche Crest from the headrest engraved into the back of my skull.

It was intoxicating. I could not believe I was driving a car this special. It was a very memorable 20 minute drive.

    I keep telling myself... someday....

Thanks for sharing this. I remember being in a similar situation just a few years ago. It'll happen, and best of luck!
