Well I have never drove a Vette before yesterday and although it wasn't a ZR1 it was a grand sport tuned up by Doug Ripply(sp). I was amazed at the difference from my Lotus to this vette. I can only imagine even a 90 ZR1 will walk my Lotus.

There was really not much real-world performance difference between the early 375hp cars and the late 405hp. Maybe a couple of miles more top speed, and maybe a tenth or two in the quarter. If it is running well, depending on driver technique, low 13s are quite possible - I have heard claims of 12.8 for cars with some minor mods. A heavily tuned 405 will probably run with the current Z06.

Just as a matter of interest, a 1994 ZR1 was able to pull out one-tenth of a second under a 1994 512TR in R&Ts 0-100-0 contest. It was in turn beaten by a tenth by the current Viper, which really is saying something about all three.

Of course, the Porsche 4wd Turbo waxed them all by about a second or so in this contest because of its weight distribution. The R&T comment on the TR was that it might very well have beaten the Porsche if only it was not so difficult to shift into second, and if it had antilock brakes to avoid the front wheel lockup.

American vs european= sledgehammer vs scalpel or bug busty blond vs temremental redhead. It depends on what type of driving you want to do, if its all highway might as well get the vette, if you want to play the car on the road like a fine instrumet get one of the other two.

I just went and looked at our ZR1 for sale board...in the 1995 cars there are currently six available...

    Lowest price: Purple Metallic (!!!) / Gray - 34K miles, minor mods - $33,900

Highest price: Yellow/Black - 163 miles, factory original. $59,500 US - and the car is in FRANCE!!! (so this price + whatever delivery and customs costs go with it).

Mid price: Averaging about 40K for a good mid-miles car - 10 to 15K miles.

    _________

Last minute edit: This is very depressing to for me to see someone buy a car that probably cost over 85K USD in 1995, keep it under wraps for no less than 12 long years - with only 165 miles on the clock, and now sell it for $59,500. I hope nobody has ever done this sort of thing with a Ferrari.

It is one thing to drive it conservatively to preserve it, but for crying out loud - you DO WANT TO AT LEAST DRIVE IT, DON'T YOU???

This (never drive it) phenomenon must be unique to the ZR1 model - well, maybe except for a couple of old guys who kept 1958 VW Beetles in some warehouse for 50 years. How much for the 90 with 103 miles, BTW?

I kind of considered one of those low-mile specials when I got mine (they are probably great bargains right now considering the new price) but I have the feeling that you would be facing the loss of every seal, gasket & hose on it plus about half the electrical contacts if you tried to actually drive it after all that time.

Definitely unique to the ZR-1. There are a few low mileage C4's that I see from time to time, but the majority of them are beat now.

At the Bloomington Gold show last summer, someone was trying to unload a private collection of ZR-1's - 1 from every year produced. All were brand-new, I believe never titiled, still had the window stickers and were essentially zero-mile cars. IIRC the lot of 6 went for just over $300,000.

There were a couple of ZR-1's that went through the auction on Friday in the $20-30K range.

nice looking car and will sell. i think it is actually too cheap as my 35k mile car would take more for me to part with.

good ones are just too hard to find!! you will be sad that you sold it...i should know as each time i sell a 930, i replace it with another 930!!

    good luck.

I already have sellers remorse after reading your message...and I haven't even sold yet. I have three amazing collector cars and one has to go - sad but it is the 930 - and yes I will miss it :(

I have a two car garage, one patience losing friend (who has housed overflow with three cars) and winter approaching - I have to let it go - someone will be very happy with this car. It needs nothing, just show it and win street concours level trophies and drive it anywhere, anytime.
