The poster on facebook says "golden drove to genesse then up 1-70" I'm not from the area so I really don't know how accurate the description is.
Porsche has set a lofty goal of selling 918 copy's. It makes sense to advertise the new product even while it's still in testing.
They've made a few prototypes which use iconic liveries of their old race cars... This one has a similar livery to the 1970 Le Mans winning 917
I know that...I just find it odd that they use flat black and flat white prototypes, then go and put stripes and numbers and drive them on the street. are they trying to be incognito or not?
Yes it is sort of odd. The sales brochure was leaked today. Not as many choices of historic liverys as I'd like to see. http://jalopnik.com/5944631/leaked-brochure-shows-porsche-will-let-you-buy-this-gorgeous-800-horsepower-78-mpg-hybrid-918-spyder
I don't think they are trying to be incognito, I think they're being deliberate. The brochure leaked today and they have two historic liveries, which I don't like as official choices. I loved them as cheeky reminders on the prototypes. If I see the car driving around with Martini Livery I'll just think the owner has no imagination.
The car looks great. If they're driving them around with limited cammo they're using this as a promo at this stage, including a teaser for the special livery graphics. They want to make sure they sell they're target and don't seem to care at this point if anyone sees the car in the flesh.
Porsche is really 'leaking' a lot of coverage on the 918. The car seems to be ready, but it will apparently only be introduced officially in Sept 2013. By then people will have already ordered a bunch of Mclaren P1, new Enzo, Paganis, Ksegg, etc..They should introduce this car at the Geneva show!
I think it looks miles, many many miles better than the McLaren P1. And I really hope it breathes some new life into Porsche's design department.
I thought they said in the paper recently that there were several deposits already on hand for the car here. Could a newspaper guy get the story wrong? The 918 makes the CGT look like a bargain today... CH
