    My 348 makes a high pitched squeal for the first 5 seconds of start up, but then goes quiet through warm up and driving. The start up noise wasn't there three months ago, so something has changed. I will have the 20,000 service done in April (it has 19,000 now) but does anyone recommend that I restrict driving it until then?

    Check alternator and a/c belts-one is probably old or loose.

    Hoping that is is something as simple as that...just don't want to do some stupid and expensive damage, as you can imagine. I'm new to Italian language spoken from the engine compartment.

    Yeah doesn't sound too bad, Next time you start the engine, start it with the air con off and listen for the noise, if it is not there it is just your air con belt slipping, If it is still there stop and restart the engine and turn on all your lights to load up the alternator, if the noise increases or is still there it is your alternator belt slipping under load.

    Might be a good idea to slip your head under and also have a look because you wouldn't want to lose either on your next outing ;)
