I have a 92' Ferrari Mondial 3.4 L. that has an intermitant speedometer. When I hit bumps in the road, it works and then it doesn't. I have noticed that when it's not working the speedometer stays at 10 Mph with the ignition on and in the stopped position. The speedometer is analog and I believe I might have a bad ground. If you have ever had or heard of anyone who has had this problem, or if you can tell me where the speedometer sensor is located, please let me know. Thank you.

The speedo staying at 10mph when the engine is on but you are stopped is more than likely because there is a small pin that keeps the speedo at 10mph and this is normal.

If you are capable you can pull out the gauge to clean and inspect the connections at the back.

In regards to the location of the speedo sensor click on the links below and find your particular model. The sensor is # 2 on both diagrams. The sensor is noted as a pulse detector.

It's a common problem for the impulse generator to fail.

If the speedo fails while driving try pounding on the dash in different locations to see if it comes back to life. If it does it's most likely a loose ground or other loose connection. If it doesn't, it's probably the impulse generator working intermittently. If you find no loose connections it's the next place to start as it's relatively inexpensive.

The speedo and tach are designed using a detent so they don't settle to 0. This is normal.
