Hi all, I have a chance of purchasing '92 TR512 in a rough condition cheap. Would it make sense to have it as a parts car for my '88 TR? Sorry, if that might sound as a stupid question for some, but I need some thoughts on this from more experienced guys. Thanks a lot.

Depends on what "rough" means and how cheap it is.

A 512 TR is actually quite a bit different car than an 88 TR even though they share parts.

IMO, no. In order to differentiate it as a new model, Ferrari actually advertised that ~85% of the parts had changed IIRC (and IME of using the SPCs, very few of the TR parts that I've needed to purchase show as also being used on 512TR). Better value as a 512TR parts car. If you can get it for a price that is low enough to allow you to immediately sell the whole thing to your local F dismantler(s) at a reasonable profit for your time hassle, that might make sense -- but we all have different levels of pain tolerance. What is "cheap"? Is it complete?

It is complete, however, this is a flood car, with all the 'nice' consequences of being under water for some time.

    Dear Ferraristi,

    Run...Forrest, I mean Linas...run! lol

Flood damage is the worst. Not only are all the electronics shot but all the leather is ruined. It's a great car for hard parts, rims, calipers, body panels and glass.

If you have an 88 TR, it would be cheaper to just spend money on that to bring it up to concours. Or, if a 512 TR is what you want, sell your 88 and buy at least a "running" 512 and fix it up...... if that's your hobby.

Not usually a good thing for the electrical items as Shamile mentioned -- so much less salvage $ value than a derilict, dry example IMO. However, if they pay you to take it away ;)...
