I've been reading about the 928 Motorsports supercharger kit for the 308/28 http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/ferrarisupercharger308-328.php. I've also read the very long thread on it on this site from a while back. I was curious if the folks that have this unit could provide some current info - I have a couple of questions about it based on reading the thread, the marketer's advertising, and the instruction manual.

It is claimed to be a 10 hour install but the instructions state that the harmonic balancer must be sent to them for modification. Obviously then, the installation is 10 hours PLUS whatever the shipping/modification time for the balancer. It appears to me that the purpose of the mod is to ensure the supercharger pulley does not spin on the balancer when assembled. Is/was this a problem originally? Seems to me this could be resolved without modifying the balancer. Loctite red should do the job...but maybe not?

I do not like the sag in the dyno curve between 6-7k. In my engine-building days we would not have allowed such a sag to exist and I'm wondering why it occurs. I would not expect such a thing at all in a forced induction engine unless there is some sort of fuel supply anomaly. But this would seem odd since the curve increases again. In a natural engine, it could be an intake/exhaust mismatch but forced induction pretty much neutralizes such anomolies, at least in mild street applications like this one. Any thoughts?

There is a pic of a turnbuckle support that attaches from the supercharger mounting plate to one of the studs that holds the cold start injector. I assume the turnbuckle allows adjustment of the belt angle of the SC in relation to the pulley on the crank. Seems to me there is a lot of strain there on a rather small stud. Have there been any problems with this?

Overall it appears to be a nice unit and quite well thought out. I personally do not care at all for the red hoses but that's a taste thing, not a functional one and black hose is certainly available.

I had thought about a Nitrous system for the 328 which would produce equal power output much easier, much cheaper, and with no affect on the stock car operation whatsoever but the 928 kit does seem a good choice to have the power without dealing with recharging the nitrous bottle.

I have sent the same questions to 928 motorsports but since they are selling the kit, I would like to hear from anyone USING the kit, especially over an extended period.

    Thanks!

I noticed that way back too, and that a lot of noise shows up on what was anice smooth line at the same point. I think it's fue as you suggest. I know Lou spent a lot of time sorting out his fuel system and the grapg on the 928 site mine not be the final.

Nick's Forza Ferrari sell a similar system for $10k that includes an electromitce ignition which is nice. The people installing it all spent some time sorting out their CIS systems too though from what I've read.

I've built several cuatom supercharger systems for 308s over the years and my personal perferance was to start by installing the CIS system on ebay......which leads to no dips in the hp curve anywhere ;)

I've thought seriously about this kit . .. I also think nitrous would be awesome especially since I've already done my EFI conversion and can use the injectors for extra fuel and make the nitrous installation totally stealth . . .I made a spacer plate that goes between the plenum and runners with orifices and plumbing all built in . . . just not in that big of a hurry to grenade this motor since I'll start opening the orifices up until I'm out of fuel :)

I think Luigi is the only one that's installed the kit and I've seen him run his car pretty hard at Big Willow (hard as in same lap time as my NA car :)) . . . impressed me 'cause thats when you're gonna have problems . . . he had an issue at the track day in March 07 with the supercharger but I guess it was minor .. . you should PM him if he doesn't sound in here.

    cheers
