Hello all, can someone please help me out here. I am just about to buy a RHD 93 348 Spyder. I've had a look on the VIN decoder on http://www.ferrariclub.com/faq/vin.html. On this car's plaque on the steering column, it reads 348 tb and the VIN-ZFF!!!35XXXXXXX. Now my question is should it say 348tb or 348 Spyder? and on the VIN, this idicates its a tb not a Spyder.

Is this normal? Could the VIN decoder be incorrect? Could this car been converted from tb to Spyder? Strange!!!

    Thanks in advance.

    sorry.

i made an off-hand joke to one thread, then noticed you'd posted the same thread in two other places.

didn't want my joke missed, no matter how lame. but i couldn't be bothered re-replying to all the other threads this time :p so you'll have to wait say 3 or 4 pages of useless replies like mine until Carl888 shows up and gives you the answer you're looking for.

somewhere in there was hopefully a useful response.

if you have the cash burning a hole then the hurry isn't on your side, it's on the seller's.

if you're looking for advice around here, wait until at least carl888, 360c, 348ch, ferrarifixer, and a couple others have chimed in.

OR, buy it for 50% market price and turn it into a track hack.

Thanks all, as it turned out, the plaque on the steering column has been changed for some reason. The VIN on the build plate, on the body and me local dealer all matched up. So, all looks good!!!

What is the story with the VIN plate on the column. Why was it changed? Did you get any explanation as of why?

There is NO reason to change that plate. If that isn't a sign.....

Remote and distant possibility that it got swapped between two cars accidently, as the plastic column shroud is often removed for repairs (gooey covering etc).

What's the VIN.... is it a LHD/RHD conversion?

G'day all and thanks for the help so far in this journey. OK, I saw the car again today and this is what I found out...

The VIN is ZFFUA35C000012345 is on the Steering column and Build plate on the A pillar.

The VIN ZFFUA43C000012345 is on the Chassis rail in the engine bay and on the Transport depatments title.

I have spoken with my local Ferrari dealer and they have informed me that the last 6 digits is the number they check "012345" as it is the production sequence no. and they comfirmed that it is indeed a 348 Spyder.

The only explaination they gave me was the factory has made a mistake.

Do the factory make mistakes like that......... I dont think so!! Aint no mistake there son... The VIN  ZFF>U- is 348 GTB/S & 348 Spider Euro version,A-is the 3 point inertia belts with auto retractors for front,43-is the 348 Spider(35 is 348tb,348GTB,348 tb,SS) C-is right hand drive UK,12345 is a low build number. Id still stay away from the OHOS. Check it out......(Thanks to 360C)

Alarm bells !! Cannot possibly be 12345, the last 5 digits (6 from about 1995) run chronologically. All 348's began with an 8 or 9 A 1993 348 Spider should be something like 97326.

12345 belongs way back in the days of Daytona's long before the 17 digit VIN was introduced.

Forget this car is my advice, at any price.

In fact serial # 12345 belongs to a 1970 365GT 2+2 (without the ZFFxxxx prefixing of course)

I think the "12345" was just an example!

And what are you doing with a flippin Maserati 3200GT.... anyway? Has it had the crank thrust bearings changed yet?

There you go. Very good work chasing that up Birel. :) Hopefully dc348 is going to stay away from the car. Actually, maybe he should tell us where the car is and who was the dealer that told him it could be a factory mistake with the VIN plate.
