Very cool...a black car with Gazelle Metallic wheels (Comet Diamant, coupe Z7Z7, 1975 factory body color of S-CH 8158). M 493 is listed in the factory color book (image below). Do you know the original "99" interior color? Your car was also delivered with Pirelli P7's with a 930/32 gearbox. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, no I see a sand colored dash and lots of black leather. We're going to unpack tomorrow and see if we can figure it out...
Congrats, looking forward to the pics. Found these cars for sale off of Pelican. The COA on '77 mentioned "chrome plated parts instead of Matte black finish." First time I've seen a 930 with a documented factory chrome finish. Nice cars BTW. Carrera Holdings Ltd » Independent Motor Vehicle Dealer . Carrera Holdings Ltd » Independent Motor Vehicle Dealer .
Original California car with Pirelli P7s taken in 1977. Look at that ride-height, even from this angle! Image Unavailable, Please Login
That green machine is killer looking. The photography makes it look amazing. Can't tell if that's Swiss or Austria?
I was looking at my 1976 U.S. market four-page folding brochures with the Copper Brown Metallic 930 on the front and realized there are two different versions. The 930 Turbo Carrera varies in horsepower (228 vs 234 hp), 0-62 mph times (5.8 vs 5.7 seconds), and an additional MPG spec is added. Did the horsepower differ for the California market? If so, perhaps there was a California market specific brochure that listed the lower hp, slower 0-62, and they added MPG. See the attached two scans. The other three pages of the brochure appear to be identical. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Speaking of museums, there is a stunning original USA spec 1976 930 Turbo Carrera 930 at the Nethercutt Museum, 5151 Bledsoe Street, Sylmar, CA 91342 Image Unavailable, Please Login
3.0 Turbo @ Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors. Its always interesting to see the mix-and-match Eu & USA spec combination that many of the cars have come to attain in their later years. This car is a Euro Turbo as evidenced by the rear bumpers and turn-signal lenses, that would correctly be badged "Turbo". Yet it is now badged "Turbo Carrera" as only a 1976 or 1977 would be. The Minerva Blue 930 formerly at Arthur Bechtel is 1977 U.S. model #930 780 0288 and has had Euro lenses and bumpers added. Minerva Blue is one of my favorite colors.
So, per my point, here is a mix-and-match Eu & USA spec combination, except in this case, a USA car sporting Eu trim, rather than vice versa! Perhaps the lesson here is that if you see a car badged "Turbo Carrera" in Europe it is likely a USA car. Its still a mystery to me why a USA car would need to have its bumper configuration changed at all, in fact I have seen some USA cars in Europe that have been (thankfully) left alone. I have seen a fair number of cars in half-Eu, half-USA guise, some posted earlier in this thread.
On the Minerva Blue 930 you can still see the US bumper holes next to the license plate. My guess is that the modern European license plates don't fit between the US spec bumpers. Plus, I suspect the red tail light lenses wouldn't pass TÜV and so would be illegal to run in Germany.
Yes the lenses do have to be Amber to pass TÜV, but speaking of the bumpers, Ive seen USA cars in Germany use the square plates as opposed to the rectangular plates. Not only is this cheaper, it means one doesn't have to modify the rear bumpers. An example would be this car which used to be with Thomas Janzen Klassik. Ive also seen USA cars in the USA running Amber lenses! Image Unavailable, Please Login
A classy way to get married. She's a quite famous TV personality over here, he's the heir of a fashion house, the car a Sienna metallic 77 turbo carrera. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
930's in film and tv. Not very accurate, but a bit of fun. I particularly liked the appearance in 'The fall Guy!' IMCDb.org: porsche 930 in movies and TV series
