So I say I'd really like to see it, and he tells me to drop by the trucking company his dad owns about 15 miles from there. I went straight there after work and found his dad, who takes me to the back of his sprawling truck repair shop, past some classic chevys, to a very dusty US model non-sunroof '77 930 (with 10,000 miles showing on the odometer!) in the very back. The cel phone pic Junior had shown me was from a few years ago.

The story is that he bought the car back in 1992 from the US Marshal Service at a seized asset sale. He said there were other exotic cars from the same owner's collection sold then too. Back taxes perhaps?

He registered it and drove it occasionally but in 1997 it wouldn't pass smog...it still has the original thermal reactor exhaust but no smog pump. It hasn't left the back of his shop since.

I didn't believe the odometer reading even though the paint appeared all original and the carpet perfect, until I pulled off the sheepskin covers that protected the seats all these years. The leather was soft and all original without any tears and barely any wear.

He did not want to sell it then, so I did what I usually do and have him put my business card in the glovebox so he can call me when he's ready to sell. 8 months later I got the call and now she's mine!

Here she is seeing daylight for the first time in 18 years. I have my work cut out for me!

Quick Question...was a sunroof standard on the US models? I thought it was...if so this owner had to special order one without it. It has A/C. My Euro '76 930 was also a non sunroof with A/C...what are my odds of running across two non-sunroof 3.0 930s in the same color?

Thanks guys! I'm still a bit in shock...the phone call, negotiation, and purchase happened within a time span of about two hours yesterday. My wife was surprised to see the tow truck pull up before dinner!

    Congrats

All U.S. Turbo Carreras had A/C and sunroofs were optional. It's more unusual to see a non-optioned sunroof on a U.S. 930 vs. RoW.

Also interesting is the black passenger side mirror and body color painted driver's mirror...they are also not the same style.

You may be able to see the part # through a repaint. The inside of my tail has not been repainted and I used a damp sponge and removed the grime to reveal the 930.512.010.00 part number. Pardon the dirt and oil – another detail project on my “to do” list.

Makes me laugh how many turbo Carreras have the turbo and the Carrera script swapped around to say " Carrera turbo" as in the above ad. It does sound correct that way, but turbo Carrera somehow makes the car sound more special.

There were several varieties of 1970s Porsche leather key fobs but unfortunately there does not appear to be a thorough documentation of changes through the years. There’s a consistent size and shape of key fobs that appeared in several period 1975 Turbo magazine articles. There’s also one with the same size and shape in an interior photo of a 1974 Carrera RS 3.0 (see image below) so perhaps they did not change from 1974 to 1975. I’m not sure what style and shape was available for 1976 and 1977 Turbos as I have not seen any in period photos. A photo below shows my interior with an original Porsche leather key fob with black and red keys and several period magazine articles that show the same style pouch.

Congrats- beautiful car, I know of 5-6 US 76 930's w/o sunroofs at this point. I also own a 76 copper brown metallic 930- that is an inspiration seeing a nice one, not sure my wallet can handle being that inspired.

I am going to be putting my 1977 930 up for sale but don't really know where it sits value wise. I know Hagarty has their valuations and some say they are behind in accurate pricing.

    1977 Porsche 930
-it has been repainted it's in original color guards red
-very recent rebuild by local Porsche specialist
    -original engine and transmission
    -don't have original Fuchs
-has a 180 mph speedo so it's not original but have a paper trail with mileage on service work to say its around a 50k mile car.

Im going to throw it on ebay and post a listing on pelican. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

The biggest detractor is your wheels. Find a set of Fuchs or some nice BBS and it'll be an easier sell with a higher price.

I'm not a fan of the rims either. Just never replaced them-might need to look into that.
