The S/R was optional not standard but the vast majority of US cars were ordered by dealers with a S/R - that is why when someone claims that car is a S/R delete we cry BS.

I have a 76 930 serial number 9306800092 built in 11/75. It also has an engine with case number 930/50. The 930/50 is the first euro version of the 3.0 engine was built up to 11/75. I think this is an original engine to the car because why would someone replace an engine of a US car with a early euro engine that was produced in small numbers.

Chassis number listed in the Mecum auction # 9306800084. PCNA COA lists paint to sample/99 but no mention of Salmon Metallic (but not a standard Burgundy Metallic). COA also lists equipment for California, sunroof, limited slip, and Pirelli tires. One of the previous owners must have deleted the A/C compressor and added a passenger mirror. It's very easy to spot replacement leather on early turbos and the seats illustrate how difficult it is for leather shops to match Recaro’s seat craftsmanship and materials from 1976.

    Don,

Can't tell you why except US VIN cars were not built with 930/50 engines as they were not certified to be used in US cars, I have #94 and I was built with engine # 6860109. A 930/50 motor will have serial # that started with 676- if it's a 76 930/50 or a 675 if it's a 75 motor. The 930/50 cases are rare but at least two 76 US cars have them.

This 1976 930 went up on Ebay and then deleted in less than 1 hour. Price was $53K

Car is not listed in the Turbo Registry...

    1976 Porsche 930

    VIN 9306800462

76' was the first year of the Porsche 930 Turbo.
This is # 462 of 530 ever made for the US market.
What you are getting is a bare chassis with 36000 Miles, with Original Suspension and Title.
    California Car, No Rust.
The last restored 76’ Turbo sold for $300,000 plus.
You can easily turn this chassis into a profit.

This is a Blue Chip Porsche that should be seen as a investment that you can enjoy.

Thanks Richard for posting photos of Louise Piech's Carrera 2.7 Turbo. Yes, the prototype Turbo engine was later replaced with a production version, but I'm not sure exactly when. The Carrera 2.7 Turbo is covered quite a bit in the new Carrera 2.7 book.

Note that Piech's Turbo retains the blue air filter! This was seen on many early 1975 930s.

    Phil,

My engine has a USA serial number 6860113. Porsche must had extra 930/50 cases laying around in 11/75. They were never ones to waste parts!

I have just one new one. It does not have a Porsche part number however it is stamped Hella. If they are contacted they may still have some or make up a bunch as I'm sure many will be needed as I have a used one also and it would not look nice on a restored 930.

Sold for $214,500 all in. Listing says mostly original paint and engine rebuild inside of 2 years. Car and COA don't match in that COA says sport seats. COA also shows turbo graphics. Says to be matching numbers engine. No insight on condition.

    Strong money. I didn't think this 930 was a $275,000 930. Yet.

I have 2 US delivered 930 cars build in 11/75. Both have a 930/51 case.

One of my cars has an engine built just 2 numbers ahead of yours. 6860115. As you can see from the picture, my case is a 930/51.

The weird thing is that while our engines are just 2 numbers apart, our VINS are 50 numbers apart. You mentioned your VIN is: 9306800092 built in 11/75. My VIN is 9306800142. I have attached my COA as I am certain my car is 100% correct. I am not saying yours isn't, but would need some researching via Porsche to get a better understanding of why you have a 930/50 engine in that car. Let me know if you want to sell that engine.

    Don,

Please post pics of serial # & Engine type #. That is an amazing find. I've have learned over the years not many absolutes when it comes to Porsche's but I have never seen that.
