Just to get back on the topic of pre-intercooled 930s...here are some photos I took of the famous narrow bodied first 930 produced. I took this when I was at the museum last month.
    Cheers!

Any idea why the were running the sugar scoop headlights at Le Mans instead of the standard H4s? I've seen this also on other rally/race cars in France during that time and always wondered why. Perhaps it has to do with some competition regulation.

Ryan – the 1975 Turbo was entered in the GTX class as a series production car and the 1975 FIA minimum lighting requirement (Groups 1 to 5) were: “…should be fitted with two headlamps as powerful as those normally found on Touring or Grand Touring Cars.” I suspect they fitted headlamps (w/ sugar scoop trim) that were better suited for Le Mans than the standard Bosch H-4s but not the U.S.-spec sealed beams.

If it is a 1976 or 1977 US Turbo Carrera, this would have been the radio set-up. One part missing from this pictures is the silver empfangsteils which is approximatly the size of the radio and silver. It mounts under the passenger seat.

In the event anyone is in need of a little black box (tuner), I have an extra one that I would part with.

I currently have Cibie units with H4 bulbs mounted with Sugar Scoops on my 930. They provide very good lighting for night driving. Similar lights were available in the mid-'70's. An advantage with them is the ability to swap bulbs of varying wattage which allows variations of intensity from street to aircraft landing light candlepower, with proper electrical modifications.

The 76 did not mount the mic next to the tuner that was 77
The 76 had the mic in the footwell next to the drivers seat
The silver box does not mount under the passenger seat
also you are missing the power antena

Silver box mounted in front of the passengers feet is what I meant.

As for the mic, in 77 it was mounted in the center console and not next to the tuner.

I agree that the 76 mic was in the footwell.

Power antenna can be bought new. These parts cannot as you know.

I have also seen cars with 1 long beam on one side and 1 fog beam on the other, but not specific to cibie or 930.

The driver's side mirror appears to be a correct for a LHD 1975 Turbo although it should be body color vs. chrome. The passenger mirror was not available in 1975 although Porsche Classic has one available today http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143318088-post2687.html

Manual mirrors of a different design may have been installed on 1976 Turbos for the Japanese market. Porsche may have left the doors undrilled so manual mirrors could be installed once they arrived in Japan. In this 1976 Mitsuwa Motors brochure, you can see the black manual mirrors on this orange 1976 Turbo. Note the 911 safety hood decal and absence of gravel guards. Hard to tell from the photo but this Turbo was most likely fitted with U.S. sealed beams/sugar scoops and was fitted with U.S. front parking lights.

After a long research and with the help of a fellow contributor to this forum in Europe, I have been able to track-down the current owner of the 930 3.0 that my father used to own from about 1980 to 2003.

Here is an historical picture from 1981, taken by myself when I was about 10 years old ...
This is the first Porsche I drove when I turned 18 and it hooked me to the 911 concept.

If the opportunity will present itself I will try to buy it back and bring it in the family once again.

The color is a nice Oak Green with a Pin-Stripe interior.

Japan may have had a ban on door mounted mirrors as a non-tariff trade barrier. It would have been pretty unusual to see one of these Turbos delivered without door mirrors.

A couple of recent pictures from 2009, not from current owner but coming from the paper trail I have followed to locate the car.

The interior is very unusual, I did not realise it back in the day but now with more knowledge about the model it looks one of the very few with this option.
Maybe not the most attractive, but very 1970s german in look.

I really like the cloth pinstripe interior. Also a very vintage look in this silver 77 930. I've only seen a few 70s cars with these interiors, however they were ordered more often in the 356 & early 911.
