That was an updated part for our Porsche 935 factory cars which came out of the Porsche Racing Dept.

The controllable boost knob/valve you have pictured came on our factory 917's,934's, and 935's

Norev 1:18 scale 1976 Turbo model, white with tartan-dress interior, fitted without A/C and sunroof. Inaccuracies include the lack of snorkel headlight washers, added center console, and 1982+ raised speaker grills on the rear parcel shelf. On the plus side, no RoW front fender markers and correct color for the engine fan. This model may be based on the white 1975 Turbo with red Turbo graphics.

I don't think so- these were used in 934's and installed by aftermarket tuners like Andial. I'm going to install one in my 76.

I have tattle tail boost gauges in two of my early cars. I really enjoy it as they just pop in where the clock goes. Original old ones were made by VDO and say so in the front bottom. Newer ones like Phils, don't say VDO. I think someone is remaking them. I know you can buy the tell-tail key which I bought from the 2 plays in CA the redo gauges.

Pretty confident looking at the motor; AAR, intercooler, spoiler, fenders, that this is a factory 3.3 litre 930.

Wow! That's worthy of snapping a pic and posting for the thread record...

"Crash investigators will look at how the car came to slide into the guard rail."

    Can you say Turbo Lag!

Thanks for your clarification. So it came after the telletale but a factory part as is the boost controller. Good news.

Every time I consider selling my 930, the thought of allowing "test drives" runs through my head and turns me off. That article represents my worst fears.

Yes they are both factory parts, but they had to come from Weissach which was where the Porsche Racing Division was located.

We pulled the electronic boost gauge out of our factory produced 935 and installed the mechanical gauge as we, nor the drivers, ever felt comfortable in relying on the electronics that were subject to errors.

We also had the tachometers installed with telletale and hid the reset key.....drivers would go out and tear-up the engines and blame the engine failure on us(engine builders).....after installing the telletale gauges it was discovered that approx. 90% of our engine failures were due to driver over boosting or missing a gear and over revving the engines. Driver lies were kept to a minimum when they had no key to reset the tach or boost gauge...LOL

Yes, the car staying that way. Spraying is done. I know the undercarriage shouldn't be solid color scheme and or but can't be sure about under the spare tire area. I am sure someone else can and or will answer what's correct. I would be surprised if this restorer made a mistake but again, I am not sure. I do know that once the spare tire / gas tank are in place, that are is never seen unless one was to start taking apart the car. That said, correct is correct.

They are all a little bit different - cars were hand spayed by multiple people as cars moved down assembly line.

Here is a pic of a 79 I used to own

Amen Phil! I was holding my breath all day worried maybe it wasn't correct.

I looked at an original paint 1977 and its a bit harder to tell because of the color but the paint doesn't look like a different shade towards the lower bottom of the area in question

The different color paints used different color primers- as with most things Porsche not too many absolutes.

Also from the May 1976 Motor Sport article, a passage on the Porsche factory inspection process:

“Up to this stage every single component has been inspected on arrival at the factory, every stage of assembly inspected and re-inspected by the green-coated inspectors (one in ten of the workforce). Now comes even more arduous checking. First, an emission check is made on a rolling-road. On another rolling-road and inspector checks out electrics and runs the engine and gearbox through their paces, ending with a high-speed run, up to 200 k.p.h. on the Turbo we saw tested. Thence to a road test, 35 km for ordinary models, 100 km, for the Turbo. If all this is not satisfactory, faults are rectified before tests are repeated.”

The June & July 1975 Panorama Porschestrasse 42 article described a VIP tour of the Porsche factory with a passage that mentions workers tagging parts of the car during inspection: “Okay, let’s turn our backs on a bevy of beautiful Porsches ready for their 25-mile road test by a lynx-eyed, microphone-eared expert who’ll pick-up the slightest rattle, squeak or whistle anywhere in the car and catch up with any fault once it’s on the road. Red, yellow and green dots plastered in various places indicate checks already made on each car during assembly, and this even includes wiring.”

Are the green and red marks/dots from inspectors? My ’75 Turbo originally had a green dot decal on a Turbo intake tube and many ’75-77 Turbos had red dots on the coils. Some also had red dots on the brake pedal.
