I have a full set of CN36 tires - NOS 185/70VR15's and slightly used 215/60VR15’s. They will be strictly show and display and were optioned on my car from the factory. On a ‘75/76 Turbo, CN36’s also fill the fenders better than 50-series Pirelli P7s but performance-wise, I’m sure the P7’s have an edge – after all, they were first developed by Porsche Weissach working with Pirelli.

im assuming they fill out the wheel wheels better because they are taller in dia. ?

P7's are pretty tires but the CN's do look great with the "balloon" like appearance. being one of the very first supercar tires, most have been replaced long ago with a updated tire.

please spoil us with more pics once you get the CN's on your car!

Porsche often got credit for being the first car with P7’s. but I believe the italians may have the first developing tires for the P7 to be adapted a production car. it was derived from a tarmac rally tire from the lancia strato's running in the prototype class since it wasnt homologated yet for gr 4 in 73. It wasn’t a priority to adapted it on the production car since they had trouble selling the small batch they had produced.

The Fiat Abarth 131 came out in 75 and P7 came on that car as a standard item. this date should preceed the porsche. in 73/74 urraco bob plus various test mule have testing P7's in which ended up on the production silhouette in 76.

which brings on a good topic, were the 15's P7 equipped turbo carrara's suspension tuned differently for the standard ones?

Agree - I really like the CN36 and P7 tread pattern as well (see below).

Michael Cotton mentions Porsche’s development of the Pirelli P7 in the book, “Porsche, Stuttgart’s Modern Development Story” (1988, Thorsons Publishing Group). As you mentioned, there may have been other developments as well...

“Six months into the production run the Turbo became equipped as standard, with Pirelli’s new P7 tyres, 205/50 VR 15 at the front and 225/50 at the rear. Porsche had helped the Italian company develop these new tyres for ultra-rapid road cars, making the huge peripheral drum at Weissach available to them. Roadholding performance was certainly improved, but now it became even more difficult to slingshot the Turbo off the line, such was the grip.”

My early 80's SAAB turbo came from the factory with P7's.

    Good looking tire.

In the AMS article I posted a few pages back they mention two tire options of the '75 MY.

    The paragraph roughly translates to something like this;

"For the turbo there are two tire series choices the Front 185/70VR15 and Rear 215/60VR15 which appear to prove themselves well but a very good compromise for the lover of lower profile and lateral acceleration Porsche offers (at an upcharge of DM800) Ultra-Flat Pirelli-Radials the 50er series (Front 205/50VR15, Rear 2255/50VR15). They not only look like racing tires but the drive is so as well regardless of how uncomfortable they are."

    A small question in between:

    - my no. 338 turbo carrera has in Warranty book a statement "The warranty begins on the day... namely on 5-6-76"

    - Please is that 6th May, or 5th June?

Car was sold in San Fransisco, California, by Guy Gardner Porsche/Audi.

Think in today's US notation it is May. But was it the same 40 years ago? In Europe 5-6-76 means 5th of June 1976.

I am preparing for car's birthday, but want to know which date it is.

    Thanks

If it's US convention, then May 6, 1976. The convention was the same 40 years ago, no change.

Okay thanks good to know. It makes sense, as May 6, 1976 was Thursday. June 5th 1976 was Saturday, so dealership perhaps was not open.

Thursday, May 6, 1976 was minimum temperature 10C, max 20C in Fresno California. According to weather records it was a rainy day.

I will arrange something special for my 3.0 930 on May 6 2016.

    Rich,

Some good news here - Pirelli are currently making the 185/70VR15 CN36 https://www.cinturato.net/185-70-15 which is an OE tyre and perfect for cars with the same size front and rear.

The really exciting news is that in the near future they will also be making a 215/60VR15 CN36. So it will be great to see these cars looking right with original eqquipment tyres on, but more importantly you will have a road tyre with a carcass with rounded shoulders thatt will handle in a progressive manner so the driving experience will be as good as it ever was.

676 0555 original number staped in factory.

6770701 "home made", no factory stamping. The 930/52 is also wrong.

Pretty car, too bad they didn't spend the money to install correct headlamp washers. Makes you wonder if car was involved in front end collision, I'd find the correct radio as well.

Here is the original PCA badge from the car in the photo plus a war bonnet from PCA hence why the cars colors were red, white & blue.
