+1 - 1975 was the last year for U.S. trunk plates. Perhaps '76 #0292 has one due to Canadian import requirements?

I finally re-united my 1975 Turbo's original 300 km/h speedometer. In November 1989, the odometer stopped working so a previous owner replaced it with a 180mph unit. Thankfully, the 300 km/h speedo came with my car in a box of parts so I finally sent it to North Hollywood Speedometer and they repaired it with a 1-day turnaround – amazing quality work…highly recommended.

Speedometers for 1975 Turbos with 930/30 gearbox’s must be pretty rare in that Porsche only equipped 930 Turbos with part # 911 641 532 00 for the 1975 model year – perhaps only one-half (~140) of the 274, 1975 Turbos may have left the factory with 930/30 gearboxes with this speedometer installed. For RoW 1976 Turbos, Porsche used part # 911 641 501 00 (also used for 1975 Turbos w/ 930/32 gearbox) with lower-profile Pirelli P7s. Porsche continued to use VDO part # 911 641 532 00 for the ‘76/77 Carrera 3.0’s but the later speedometers have the provisions for speed control (A connector) and also had the Porsche part logo added (they may also have a different series part # vs. 0002 on the right-side of the face).

My speedometer has a VDO housing date of 10/74 and blue ink stamp of 12/74. This is the earliest instrument in my car with all other instruments dated 2/75.

    Looks great Rich. Congrat's

I am looking for a Euro 300 km/h dated in 1975 if anyone has or knows of one. No easy find... I have PLENTY of rare parts to trade if anyone has one.

As for your invoice from Nine Lives Racing, my 1977 930 had work done there just 2 years after your car. My car spent a large portion of it's life in Denver. Previous owner was Karen Burkhardt. Was it the same owner? Cool to see the same hand writing on the invoice. Sadly I have called and the owner of Nine Lives Racing has passed away.

Jamie – that’s cool…the owner's name on my receipt was not Karen. All of my receipts from Nine Lives Racing have leakdown numbers as well – your #’s are really good on that receipt!

Cross-posting this from pelican, not affiliated

1977 3.0 Turbo Motor #6870338 - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

I sent this information to the 3.0 Turbo registry, but thought I'd post it here in case someone was looking. I have the 1977 930/53 3.0 turbo case number #6870338 in case the car is still in circulation and looking for its motor. Its currently built into a 2.8 short stroke and living happily in my ST, but with the values of the early turbos going stratospheric, someone might be able to convince me to part with it if they have the original car it belongs to.

    Very nice!

I just had one gauge worked and after install, I realized the inside glass/Plexiglass on the others need to be cleaned as well. On the drive yesterday, I may have heard the speedometer pop a few times since 1989.

Symbolic does seem to take the best pictures and lays them out better than anyone (from what I see). I would love to find out who does their photography and have them take pics of a 77 930 I plan to list in the Fall.

B&W photo from Porsche 930 Facebook page…1976 RoW Turbo fitted with Pirelli P7s. As with all 1976 RoW Turbos, would have been fitted with 930/32 gearbox and 911.641.501.00, 300 km/h speedometer. The lower profile P7s give the illusion of a higher than normal ride height.

Part number of the 1976 Speedometer ist 930.641.501.00, for serie 50 tyres. For 1975 and 215/60R15 rear tyres in '76, it is 911 641 532.00

FYI part number 911.641.501.00 is the 250 kph speedometer for a 1970-72 914-6.

The correct 300 kph speedometer number for the 3.0 930s with option M385 215/50VR15 front and 225/50VR15 rear Perelli P7s I believe is as listed above by pquadrat.

Yes, sorry typo...Mike's chart has the correct part #'s.

Even though part # 911.641.532.00 has a 911 part #, the series 0002 was only used in the 1975 Turbos with 930/30 gearbox. Porsche may have had plans for an electronic 300 km/h speedometer for the Carrera 3.0 so they used a 911 part #. The RoW 1975 and 1976 Carrera 2.7's used mechanical 300 km/h speedometers.

Bill Noon does all of his own photography and writes the descriptions himself. Not many are as hands on as Bill is anymore. The business has changed as most dealers now have staff photographers and hire out for description writers. Often times when you call a dealer on a car they haven't even read the description posted to their own website. It can make for some confusing phone calls. Bill is old school and works his ass off.

Hollywood Wheels is a joke of a company, I was embarrassed to be a part of their sale last year. It was, however, quite the place to buy!
