Fingers crossed. My car (1977) hammers tomorrow night in Pebble Beach! Sadly I won't be there to see it as it's harvest time for me. I sure am going to miss her. The history, original condition and interior needed to be seen to be really appreciated. I still have two early Turbos after this sale. Cheers and wish me luck!

More images of Emerald Green Metallic, Japanese plate 13-08 in an LP record. The record includes additional photos that show the sunroof and airbox clips indicating a 930/50 engine. It also shows an unusual Porsche decal under the rear wing. This may be '75 Turbo 9305700123, Glöcker (Frankfurt) delivery, Pirelli P7s, sunroof, and no A/C.

    Hi,

I’m in the process of acquiring a 1975 930 and heading down the path of restoration. I’ve owned a number of Porsches over the years, and done some work on them as well, but this will be the most ambitious project by far.

    Chassis # – 930 570 0106

Manufactured April of 1975. Ice Green Metallic with Black interior. Non-sunroof car. Japan market car.

The current condition – 91,226 km. At some point it was repainted white. Exterior in okay to rough shape without any obvious signs of rust. Interior is rough. Engine runs. Restoration candidate for sure.

I lack the time and skill to do the bulk of the work myself and I’m currently talking to a variety of shops. I’m planning a bare metal repaint back to the original color, sorting out the car mechanically and it needs a lot of interior love. I’m going for a really nice cars and coffee weekend driver, not shooting for a top 1% concours restoration. Slippery slope I know

Photos and a walk-around of the car in current condition here on my site - https://911maniac.com/1975-930-opportunity/

This thread has been eye opening and I appreciate being able to learn from your experience. I’ve got Ryan’s book and spoken to him about the project as well. I welcome any thoughts, recommendations, gotchas, etc. I know what I’m getting into won’t be fast or cheap, but I’ve always loved these 930s and I just happen to share the exact same birthdate and birthplace as this car so I’m feeling like it was meant to be. Dangerous I know!

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Follow-on story on this car's record production run at Pikes Peak. Very cool that it is licensed for the road.

I didn't want to watch the video all the way through-- the car in the picture appears to be a modern Turbo, not a 930?

Is it a modern Turbo made to look like a fake 930, or a 930 made to look like a fake modern Turbo?

No, the car that ran up Pikes Peak is a 992 Turbo S. But 000 magazine sponsored the car and driver, David Donner, to make a record attempt in it. If you haven’t seen 000, it’s a heavy-duty, well researched, 4 times a year journal about (mostly) old Porsche. They are on issues 23 now, but in issue 13 they featured my unrestored RHD ‘75 (9305700080) on the cover and in a long article written by Richard Meaden, a respected U.K. motoring journalist. The 000 guys decided to use the pages of that article to make an art wrap for the David Donner car. I imagine they were making some point about the continued relevance of printed copy. I love the magazine anyway, so I was happy to hear about it. And I suppose it’s the fastest “my 930” will ever be driven up a mountain ;-)

I’m in need of a likely impossible to find 1975 airbox. Mine doesn’t have the end cap or clamps unfortunately. I know the 75 is unique so I may need to learn how to 3D print one!

Here is a shared album of photos that I’ll be updating - https://adobe.ly/3Xb98mn

Here’s a short video from delivery day -

The engine/trans is out and being worked on. The car is with the body shop getting stripped and prepped. The project is underway.
