Thanks Joe so it was featured in 3 period magazines One of the things I didnt like about the Excellence article was the comparison of the Turbo Carrera to the 2.7 Carrera RS: The 930 may have homologated the 934, but its no 2.7 RS. Dont get me wrong, the 2.7 RS is an amazing car but why compare it to an officially imported 1976 U.S. Turbo Carrera? Perhaps just another beat of the 2.7 RS drum.
hewr is blurb i poted on another P car site. "I'm sure many don't agree with my statement as it is my opinion. While some limited production 911s such as Carrera RS's, and 911Rs and even some 911Ss are more valuable and are rich in Porsche heritage, I don't think they are the most significant road car Porsche made. My reasoning is why the street 3.0 930s were made, which ushered a new dominating era in Porsche racing. The 3.3 78-79s were an evolution of the early turbos and took performance to a new level for a street car. Maybe i'm biased because i grew up in the 934-935 era. Will they be as valuable as an RS or R down down the road, I don't think so due to supply (alot were made compared to an RS or R) and demand. So back to the $40K question of an epic Porsche to buy, i think an early 930 is it."
It is astonishing to me how many USA 3.0 Turbos are back in Europe. All the more reason they are so rare here. Here is an ex-California car for sale via IPO cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great video by Jeff Hill of his 3.0 930 passed down to him by his father. Listen to the crackle on the overrun towards the end of the video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVs3sV7cfgU&feature=player_embedded#!
1976 - I'm fortunate to have number 48/100, as presented to me by my son! A truly stunning illustration. Love it... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jose, Get "Tribute to the Turbo Carrera" by Karl Ludvigsen, it is awesome. He did a study on the conception, design & production of the 3.0 cars and he went to the factory himself when they were first being built and did a masterful piece. They had the '74 mirrors at that time nut the clunky electric ones that they ended up using for the US cars.....
Indeed. This model of a 3.0 930 prototype of sorts has the ones you speak of.. http://tayrose.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21&products_id=557 Image Unavailable, Please Login
