Really interesting color. Must say? I kinda like it! 2 things save me. First? Don't have that kind of scratch. Second? That dealer name sticks in my mind from the past, and not in a good way. No personal experience, but plenty of posts elsewhere.
Don’t care for the color personally, but would overlook it because of the car which I consider a pinnacle car in looks and performance and would buy one over similar asking price cars. In regards to the seller, I have no affiliation or past dealings. I will say I don’t buy dealers and haven’t had a positive experience with the vast majority, but my focus is always on the car just like a private party deal. I always smirk when I see posts of buyers complaining about “used car” dealers....Hate to cast a total broad brush that paints the fine businesses that go the extra mile with the negative fast talking stereotype, but the reality is regardless if you’re buying a $3k Honda on a rock lot or a Ferrari on polished floors the buyer and seller fundamentals are always the same just different magnitude of dollars and it all relates to the Forrest Gump quote “...you never know what you’re gonna get” as outcomes have proven out regardless of seller.
Exterior: Pretty Interior: Ugly I've been under one on a lift. It has the most bizarre aero tunnels under a car I've ever seen. They really went heavy on getting it to 220 with only 550 hp and 5 speed.
Well it didn’t get a single bid. I personally love the interior with the wraparound gauges and seat shape.
I think it's a pretty niche car with a small market. Also wonder if the dealer's reputation had any impact on bidders. There is/was another XJ220 from TWR featured on BaT for a much higher price. I've seen one in person and its awesome-- but I'm a Jag Fanboy.
I was there when it was new. I was there with the Fast Masters series. I was there when the v12 won Le Mans. After the deposits , the car collapsed, it was called ........The V6 SYNDROME. GTJOEY1314 P.S. That actual green car has a certain history for the good but no one cares or knows it for the most part because, it didn't have the v12.
The "Fast Masters series" makes me laugh... I remember watching a couple of races, and it seemed like they were playing "demolition derby" with the Jags. Yeah. Promised a V12. Built numbers based on THAT promise, but stuck in a V6. Ended up with a HUGE backlog of unsold or "refused" cars. Still? An amazing car! Had they just kept with a V12? Would probably have sold them.
Pictures of my car taken on the weekend. How can you not love them! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I love them all and in my new tv show we even featured one. I love the lines and the look for its time. I LOVE THE CAR....BUT it was a complete BUST and BOONDOGGLE to Jaguar. Like the ebay add says, service was done by ONE MAN who when he dies, YOUR DEAD! No one under 45 cares about the automobile and gasoline, so what will be the upside? 30 years later history repeated itself again and the same thing will happen a v6 in a sports car and only one place can service it? Sound familiar. P.S. I loved that silver combo though......
Wow - You’re the man! Love your car - Regail us with its his story and your acquisition. Disagree with Joey...clowns poo pooed the car for no reason. Who cares is it had a 6...it was the fastest in the world.
It was ahead of its time. Ford again proving you can make a great car with a TT V6 in the Ford GT so the V6 in the Jag was not a failure. I love the 220. It looks amazing in person and has aged well (exterior). The interior I was never a fan of...
They are a fantastic looking car. The engine change to a V6 and the parts-bin door hinges/interior/et al bits really hurt it. There are some structural issues too. For example if you're not timely with your fuel cell change (which happens) and it develops a leak, the fuel dissolves the adhesive holding the honeycomb structure together. It's amazing to think this was once thought to be possibly in the league of the McLaren F1. They were both being developed and sold in the early 90's, with similar pricing. Today the value differential is 40 to 1.
It was well ahead of its time, look at it this way, today in 2017, they’re starting to use V6 twin turbo engines in Supercars and HyperCars. We have the new Mercedes V6 twin turbo hypercar and the Ford GT, both breaking records, both ultra fast. Give it another 10 years and a V6 would be huge... You can’t discount the fact that Jaguar used aerospace engineering in regards to the aluminium honey comb structure, try building a car like that today. My starter motor gave way, yes the car is 24 years old so it’s bound to happen someday. Everyone’s scared to work on it due to the complex design, it was put together with brilliance. You’ll appreciate it more once you’ve seen it pulled apart, which I have and I was standing there sayin, “WOW”, the amount of detail that went into it. They really did build a race car for the street, with a comfortable interior.
It was never, ever marketed as v12! a complete urban myth. The one off and unofficial Sat morning club car was put on the stand at the Birmingham motorshow for a bit of fun that's all, the thing was huge, I was there. Only after that and the publicity generated at that event did a production version car become an official Jaguar concept, and straight away it was clear v12 and 4x4 was not an option, The production car was always going to be v6 and 2wd from the off and every buyer knew that. The supercar market slumped in the meantime and the wide boys who put down a £50k deposit thinking they would make an instant killing did not have the balance so used any excuse they could think of to back out of the deal.
I have a 220s , a magnificent car and, at the time of manufacture, light years ahead of anything coming out of Italy . It is built like an aircraft and the built quality is exceptional. One of the most underrated supercars at the present and the market will catch up with it very soon . If there is a drawback against the car , i would say it is Don Law , Don Law racing acquired all the jigs and the rights to the XJ220 when Jag offloaded the XJ220 program and Don Law is a total prick to deal with, a disgrace to the Jaguar brand. The seems to be light at the end of the tunnel as Jag is servicing XJ220's again in their classic department.
Hopefully Jaguar take over and gain full control of the XJ220 program. My first impression can be seen here Jaguar XJ220 - How AWESOME is it? First Drive Impression
Assuming that figure is correct, someone got taken for a huge ride. There is nothing that complicated about the service, V6 cosworth motor, parts are readily available, even if one changes the fuel cell, it shouldn't come anywhere close to 90k. It is myths like this that scare people away from the XJ220
