My brother Martin, my son Michael and I went to VIR this past weekend to crew for two teams. The national director's 2 cars and a canadian team. I was offered the opportunity to get into a rental 944 offered by www.pinkporsches.com. They brought 3 cars, one driven by myself, one by another cup driver and one driven by a pro driver that raced World Challenge the same weekend.
30 cars entered equally prepared ( yeah right).
This was the National Championship and guys were playing for keeps. I was just having fun, especially since I have not sat in a racecar in 2 years. It took a little warming up.
What used to be an ON/OFF switch for me when I had to perform on track was a little more like a dimmer switch this time. Being in a car I had never seen before added to the challenge. The car felt scary in the first practice session.
By Sunday morning it was manageable and I finished 4th. Considering the competition and their equipment the best finish possible. I am very satisfied.
