In the middle of a complete redo of the sound system. Are the OE speakers crossed over at the tweeter only? Can I re-use the factory speaker wiring without having to worry about an external crossover hidden somewhere?

It would be really nice if I could use the factory wiring to go into my crossover and then out to the speakers but I want to make sure I am not going to be trying to crossover an already crossed-over feed. (get that?)

    TIA,
    Tony.

I replaced the tweeters and door speakers and used the factory speaker wires--sounds fine....

The original tweeters have a small capacitor moulded into the back casing, there are no additional crossovers in the system, the mids just roll off naturally at the top end so just straight wire your new mids and tweets from your crossover. Just be careful getting the vent/tweeter housing out.

Thanks for the help guys. This project is just about done. I did a complete dynamat of the doors, (don't listen to this part if you get sick easily) cut the speaker baffles out (as 285Ferrari did) and installed new speaker mounting rings (supplied with the Polk/MOMO speakers). Really created a nice speaker setup in the doors.

Kenwood Excelon head unit with XM, IPOD and bluetooth. All hidden and wired nicely.

It is always wise to Dynamat over the speaker ring and door in one sheet so it acoustically seals against the door too. It should make a big difference over stock.
Think it is best not to mention the cutting bit again. :)
