You must be very patient. I need to stop drinking coffee and smoking crak a week before welding Great job for sure
Yup. got as far as the tubing, 4 random technology cats a 100 and 300 cell set so I can swap easy Just need some time I am at busy season and have my 1000 car Hemi show this weekend After that play time Also I got intimidated by INTMD8's welds, I been welding my entire life and can't do it like i used too Getting old sucks the big one
Thanks guys Tim, do you have a good shield? Being able to see good makes a world of difference. I use an Optrel. Bob. Right now I'm going to run them as-is. Next engine out I will build headers for it as well and may ceramic coat everything to match at that point.
A bit more progress. The Capristo is very nicely made! (as one would expect). Also, I had to remove the o2 bungs from the side of the cats as they sensors interfered with the rear subframe (cores are smaller so it moved the sensors back, should have checked that!!). O2 sensors are now on top of the cats. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not much yet but I'm staying hopeful All back together. And yes oil temp was up! Ran for 10min before I took the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7J82wpQwOo&feature=youtu.be Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice work and fab. It sounds great, from the photos above the capristo unit looks quite close to the clutch cover but with the whole thing together the tips seem to protrude enough. From the video, it sounds like the typical flywheel rattle on shutdown at the end? Maybe check that kluber grease....Also noticed it has a similar idle to my 95 car, they certainly don't idle the same way as a 5.2 . Now I want a capristo to replace my challenge unit. lol
Thanks! The muffler case is quite a bit thicker than original (and the challenge exhaust that was on it). Front of the case is only about .125 away from a nub on the clutch cover (though that should increase slightly with heat in the system). Can't move it further back as I already had to space the heat shield back for clearance. Not sure on the flywheel rattle. I hadn't noticed it but will give it a listen next time. Agreed on the 2.7 idle. It does seem to have more of a rolling/cammy idle than my previous 5.2 car. I would think that's expected with 2 separate engine managment systems. With proportional fueling driving o2 switching I'm sure it could get into a rhythm being not sync'd together.
My f1 made the rattle once in a while on shutdown. It apparently got a new clutch right before I got it from a dealer so I didn't worry about it. The 95 doesn't make the rattle. Apparently it also had the flywheel serviced so maybe re greased. In any case remove the two 10 mm bolts on the bottom pumpkin and have a look in there. The 2.7 idle for me smoothed out completely when I ddisconnect both 02 sensors and started her up... Dave helms says it's a characteristic of the two separate bank setup. Mine has the same hop ...burble at idle on occasion. It runs perfect so I just accept it as normal.
Figured I would just add this here. Made some cat delete pipes today. Nothing really exciting but I was interested to try them to see the difference in sound and engine compartment heat. Thanks Ken. The difference in sound is......not much at all. Thought it would be a big difference and maybe it would be compared to stock cats. Compared to the metallic cats I had on there, maybe 5% louder? I was in a rush when I got home so didn't even open the engine lid to see if temps seemed any different. (though I suspect that won't be a huge difference either)
I would think you would have a decent reduction in temperature but if you don't do a "proper" measurement before and after it will be hard to tell. Then again the catastrophic converters probably have some some heat shielding and the test pipes don't. In any event, you'll definitely be on the winning side (lower temps) with test pipes if your car starts running rich for some reason.
Agreed! Just curious to see if it will -seem- like less of an inferno but no, I didn't take any measurements. No heat shielding on the converters.
were you running your custom ypipe before putting in the test pipes..? if I recall you had the ypipe in with the high flow cats.. so that's why maybe you feel not much difference in sound.. meaning on bypass.. most of the volume/pitch was produced from the y-pipe and you were already getting improved lower rpm/idle sound with the hyflow cats.. now with the test pipes.. there is not much change..
