Sensational! Would love to see how this rips when it’s back together.
Thanks guys! I’m putting forth my best effort but think probably not worth the effort? If I knew how much work it would be, would probably have just ordered Tubi’s
Haha, I guess but I'm too picky to get them done in anything that would be considered a reasonable amount of time. I'm out there for hours to get them down to a tenth of an inch the same in length and a degree in all angles. Not really necessary of course but that's what I've been doing.
Honestly if you started selling them in limited quantities I bet some of us would buy them. They can't be more costly than the Tubi's at full retail (7.5k)!
7k for equal length headers is an absolute steal. I can only imagine what a 355 with a Capristo and those headers will sound like!
Hey guys I think we should wait until he finishes his project before we start begging him to sell us headers! I know whenever I am in the middle of something I never want to do it again; once it wraps up I start to feel better about the work...
They are pretty good but not entirely equal. For an oem header a very good design functionally. I measured 19.75 shortest primary and 22.25 longest primary. So within 2.5 inches or so? Certainly an effort was made but could be done better. Equal length is what I wanted to do but probably the least important thing in terms of improvements that were made. Took me forever but the exhaust is finally done. The primary exhaust path (to test pipes or what was main cats) had some goofy angles so I rebuilt everything to make that nicer, deviating from the fixture. Are you deleting that ticking time bomb gearbox oil warmer in the V or just haven't installed it yet? I want to delete mine.
My heat exchanger appears to be in nice shape but I don't trust it. I just bead rolled an aluminum tube and had it anodized black to put in it's place. I'll put an external cooler on it but haven't sourced one yet. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice. How did you handle the gearbox oil lines? That's the part I can't visualize (because I haven't had my engine out yet). I assume you can't just plug them, you have to fab a line, right?
Why not just replace it with the upgraded one. That’s what I did a few years ago and my original was also perfect
Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I thought Elliot did just that and filled his trans with coolant. You can't plug the lines but you can take one of the originals and loop it to the 2 ports on the trans if you weren't going to run an external cooler.
The length of the tube ends up dependent on the diameter of the tubes. With larger diameter tubes needing to be longer. So, if the tube diameters are larger, the length should be a bit longer to stay at the same "tune". It is not a lot of length difference but it is not zero !
Do you think this is something feasible with the engine out or could it be done in situ? I need to replace my thermostat as well. Also have a pair of aluminum radiators waiting to be installed....hmmm....
More of the same really, just had everything ceramic coated inside and out. (Well, they couldn't get far inside the muffler but everything else yes.) I have some more ideas for heat management that I'll be making.
