Thought it would be interesting to run the car at the dragstrip again after the weight reduction. It currently weighs 2,980lbs. With me in the car 3,150lb raceweight. Of course the battery was dying on my phone so the only video I got was of a pass I messed up the 2-3 shift. (have never done that!). Shifted 1st to 2nd to 1st (but realized it) and then to 3rd. Still ran 12.5 at 115 on that pass. Last pass was basically just a huge burnout through 1st and lots of tire spin on each shift, even 3-4 so I decided not to run it anymore. I think the track was too cold for the Michelin PSS to really work right. So, it runs pretty good! I would say this pass backs up the dyno numbers. Also it was banging off the rev limiter through the traps in 4th gear so not sure I could do much better for trap speed without taller tires or raised rev limit. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well done. That 1 - 2 - 1 - 3 cost some time, but at least you caught it before it cost you a lot of money! Love the video...thanks!
Awesome run and props to you for not babying that V8 around [emoji102] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
very nice run.. I drive spirited on the street.. but your run was squeezing every bit possible out the car.. even with the miss shift.. I could hear it hitting the limiter in 4th at the end.. only observation was your oil temp looked pretty low..?
Thanks guys! Barry, yes I think it's pretty good for 214ci. Turned 23 years old this month. Tony, Yes it was a little low but not in a dangerous range. Drove the car up there which took an hour and it was cooled down 20-30 minutes between runs. Coolant was 180+, oil 140-160 through the run. (60+ celsius on the chart, viscosity not changing much above that point Image Unavailable, Please Login )
I don't want a 911 turbo. (Though I've owned much faster than that) Not coincidentally I want exactly what I have. Probably just as quick as a 993tt or 996tt as it is right now anyway
12.4 is pretty fast , especially for a 20 year old car, but I wouldn't go picking races with 911's. A 996tt with a mild tune will do 500hp, couple that with awd and a weight pretty close to your car and the 911's will dip well down into the 11's. I do give you credit for going out and whipping up your 355 up a little instead of just letting it languish in a garage. Drive it like it was meant to be driven !!!!!!!
A 993 or 996 turbo with upgraded mufflers and no cats it would be pretty close to this car in spite of the fact of it having a larger engine and forced induction. Of course if you crank up the boost it will make more power, I don't think this is a revelation to anyone. The car I owned before this one trapped 153mph in the 1/4. I have more fun in the F355. Why don't I troll Rennlist for dragstrip results and respond "If you want to go fast you should buy a junkyard turbo LS fox body and run 8's" ? Because it would be an ignorant comment with no relevance.
Hmmm.... I wonder how well a 911 Turbo would do on a dragstrip against this old heap?: Image Unavailable, Please Login
pffffttt, that's just an old truck , can't possibly be fast, lol ( in one episode tho , a guy in a turbo cab really did give it a good race , did better than most. )
Exactly. Some people don't get it. As someone that's drag raced since I have my license, there are plenty of "fast" cars out there, but it's the car you enjoy that's more important.
Right. the perfect garage is: muscle car, sports car, jeep (or truck), and daily driver, especially if you manage/work on them yourself. My GTX will run on anything I own as long as i'm not turning. i want to go to a cruise night, i take it. i want to do a cars and coffee, i take the 348. I need to go to Lowes...I take the jeep. sjd
Everyone is differant. I take mine everywhere. Walmart, lowes, ace, radio shack,in and out, mcdonalds, Lets just say everywhere its easier. First 5 to 10 years not as much as now.
Thanks, you made my point ,taking the 355 to the dragstrip is like taking a mini cooper to lowes to get plywood .
F355 owners manual states standing 1/4 mile acceleration et and mph. Probably not done at Fiorano! Running it at the dragstrip backs up the dyno numbers and is a perfect indication of the running condition of the car. To summarize, you have no point.
Yes everyone has their preference to do whatever they like with a car. A timed acceleration run to see results of exhaust modifications and weight reduction is a valid test regardless of preference.
I'm going to do donuts and pop a wheelie today in honer of this and may even put on my chrome wheels 22 inch
