IIRC, valves are induction (case) hardened to 65 RC and guides are similar (when steel). So bronze is gonna be a whole lot less. I don't know Ferrari spec but I'm speaking general terms from the days when I designed automated assembly equipment for GM and I've done both automated guide assembly, seat assembly and key up.

Assuming you have the engine out for a 30K service
what is the additional cost to do the valve guides?

How much of that is parts?
    Machine Shop work?
    Labor?

Just trying to budget if I were to get a 355 and planned to do the work myself
vs paying extra for one that already had it done.

    thanks,

    m

I wish I could have had them replaced for that amount.

So any recommendations on who I could send my years to if they ever need this done? I would pull the heads myself and send them out then reinstall myself. That gas to be less than 5k that is ridiculous.

    yeah, i agree. Its higher.

The answer to the question is to buy one with the work done, by one of the few reputable experts on these cars. The process of engine out, major, guides, and "while your in there's" will cost the owner $20k-$30k in most situations. No way he gets that back in sale price.

I'm looking at it from a reverse perspective and its kind of like modifications to the car. You get just a fraction of the investment back in resale.

Terry, FYI from what I've read, Gary Sharpe has refocused his business on other marques and the www.srexotics.com website is no longer active.

Oh that is too bad. Gary is a real asset for the F355.

Does anyone know if there is a list/source to link up assembly numbers with VIN numbers?
