Given that the car is in Canada and the numbers on the speedo I assume the odometer is in km. I would suggest anyone interested in purchasing this car to explore the paper work as its states "un fit" Not sure if this would transfer to good paperwork for a US title. Check it out before you bid. Howard Musolf 1981 308gtsi 1982 400i Cabriolet 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo
Forget US salvage title. You may not register this car in U.S. Even for parts, it is a heck of a challenge in bringing the car into U.S. I have tried it once and know. If anyone has a easy way of bringing the car into U.S., please fill us in. I had to deal with Ferrari N.A. and make sure the documents where proper, you know, tires, U.S. customs etc.
I do like the color combo. Anytime u c a Ferrari with flat tire or damaged wheels u need to assume the under panel is gone. This includes the diffusers and in some cases the gas tank may be damaged. Be careful if you r bidding on it.
All, At this moment I was in contact to buy this car, all looks well.. But has anybody seen this car? I'm planning to export to europe. Thanks J
hey Steve, so learned in your own experiences, why is it exactly this particular car couldn't be (easiy) brought into the US? is it because of a "salvage" title vs. simply being written-off? is there a difference thanks
I tried on another 355 while back and the US customs was the issue. You have to get a letter of conformity from Ferrari NA, which is doable and the guys in NJ were more than willing to help. The other issue was the transporter and their own issues how they could not enter US and had to drop the car off in Canada on the boarder and my transporter had to meet them and pick it up from there. The tires on the car had to be US DOT approved or importing tires to US became a big issue. I even thought about sending it to a family member in Canada and have them piece it out and send it to me in pieces. It was just too much hassle for the benefit. Again, if I lacked resources that anyone may have on hand, please let us know the simplest way to import a Ferrari from Canada. Thanks and hope this helps
There is no difference in the title status. Matter of fact, junk titles may be even easier to import to US since we know they wont be road worthy or able to register. Salvage, clean or rebuildable titles are a hassle since US knows we are trying to register or make them road worthy.
In actual fact, importing cars is not as much trouble as you think. I have done it in both directions with both salvage and normal cars - I have done it on my own and wit the help of a broker and I can say this - the $200 that a broker will charge you is worth every penny. Salvage, junk or otherwise, the process is pretty much the same. Pretty much every tire sold in North America are DOT approved so that has not really become an issue and I have never even been asked about it.
There are a number of brokers depending on which border you are at, easy to look them up. I forget the name of the guy I used, it was some time ago now.
Wow that interior really looks nice! I'm digging the colors a lot. Seems like it would be relatively easy to get a F & R bumper cover, color match paint them and might be good to go for a great price.
$200, 500 or 600 does not kill me if I spent it on importation/broker services. I just could not get someone competent enough to organize the whole thing. Please post some info on brokers or sources as I have mentioned before so we can use them next time. Thanks
